This is the first of two concerts in the RSNO Scottish Power Proms season with a distinctjazz input (the second is also the opening night of the Glasgow international Jazz Festival on Fri 28 see next issue for full details). Pianist Wayne Marshall plays jazz-flavoured works by Bernstein. Jolivet and Gershwin, and is joined by trumpeter Die Edvard Antonsen in a selection ofjazz standards in the second half.

The Cowieson Quartet’s stay in the Wednesday night slot has been extended by popular demand. as befits one of the tightest and most imaginative contemporary jazz outfits on the Scottish scene. The saxophonist is joined by pianist Brian Kellock. Kenny Ellis on bass. drummer John Rae. and a special guest each week.

I Sophie Bancroft and Gina nae Edinburgh Folk Club. Pleasance Theatre Bar. The Pleasance. 8pm. £4 (£3) on door. These two singers both come from notable jazz families. and that influence is apparent in the otherwise pop and folk flavoured material of their duo set.
