I lune Domenic Cappello. I Occupation DJ and producer.

I Place of orlala Glasgow. Illoutlltlhegetlutouual‘o‘illis DJing career began playing blues in a pub in Hamilton aged seventeen. When acid house came out in 1988 he tried playing that in the pub and got sacked. He then went on to DJ at the Rhumba club in Perth, and it was here that he was discovered by Ally Cook from seminal Leeds club Back To Basics.

I What happened next? Ally Cook was guesting. heard Domenic play and immediately booked him for the next night at Back To Basics. Domenic went down to play a quarter of an hour warm-up, and ended up playing most of the night after Ralph Lawson and Ally Cook came up to him during his set and said: ‘We’ve just taken an E, stay on’. That was six years ago. Since, Domenic has been a regular at Basics and Lawson has become one of his best mates.

I What about bJIug to Glasgow? He’s been DJing at the Sub Club for three and a half years now, initially starting as a warm-up DJ but eventually graduating to a level equal to the Subbie’s legendary Harri. Now he plays a mix of hard Chicago (Thursdays) and deep house (Saturdays) at the club.

I What about his production work? When Ralph Lawson’s 20:20 Vision label set up two and a half years ago, Domenic was an obvious choice, working with Lawson on two tracks: ‘Shielded’ and ‘Sheltered’. His new track on 20:20 is ‘Space City’. Other names working on the label are 7 Derrick May, Diesil and Huggy.

I Ila: boueule always “wanted to beaDJ?Whenheleftschoo1he begana course studying marine. electronics, but left that to study hairdressing for three years. Three years ago he undertook a sound engineering course in Glasgow.
