The British Council promotes educational, cultural and technical co-operation between Britain and other countries. Our work is designed to establish long-term and worldwide partnerships working to the objectives of our major UK Government sponsors. The British Council in Scotland aims to promote greater international understanding of Scottish culture, achievements and contemporary excellence through the Council’s worldwide network. ' The Council is seeking an International Arts Officer to be based in

the Council’s Glasgow office. This is a new post responsible to the International Arts Manager for maintaining links with the Scottish arts community and for the promotion of Scottish arts and artists through the Council’s global network and with the partnership project, Scotland the Brand Unit (SBU).

Duties: keeping up to date with all aspects of the arts in Scotland, including the principal arts bodies, and with international events in which Scotland might be involved; researching and organizing artistic inputs to British Council and SBU programmes; keeping colleagues throughout the Council up to date on the Scottish arts by providing a regular flow of information; organizing programmes for arts visitors to Scotland and assisting with press relations. Experience/skills/qualifications:

Essential: good interpersonal, communication and administrative skills; proven organizational and planning skills; the ability to critically assess and report on performances and exhibitions; a knowledge of and commitment to the Arts and an understanding of the unique aspects

of Scottish arts and culture.

Desirable: experience of having lived or worked overseas; IT skills; previous administrative experience within an arts organization and knowledge of the work of the British Council.

Salary: in the range £11,770 to £14,550

Contract: two-year fixed-term contract.

The job involves extensive travel within Scotland and the need to work irregular hours.
