ROCK

Reef For those about to rock, we salute you. Heads down for some no- nonsense, hard boogie with a burst of hip-swinging gospel. The boys from the West Country know how to rock hard but they groove at the same time which is probably why their second album, Glow, went in at Number One. See feature. JAZZ

Ray Brown Trio The veteran giant of the bass was in great form at last year's Glasgow Jazz Festival, and returns with another too-notch young trio for a not-to—be-missed one-off appearance. Edinburgh: Queen's Hall, Fri 28 Feb.

Snake Davis and The Charmers Saxman Snake Dths has graced a squillion pop and rock hits, but he is a mean player in his own right when he gets together with his regular band. Edinburgh: Tron Jazz Cellar, Wed 5 Mar.

CLASSICAL

Scottish Chamber Orchestra Special treats galore this issue with the world premiere of the fourth of the Glasgow Commissions by MacMillan and a recital of Barber's fiendishly difficult Violin Concerto by child prodigy, Karen Gomyo.
