AS WELL AS BEING THE CREATOR of the world’s favourite spirit Don Facundo Bacardi was something of a family man. And as each one of the Bacardi children produced children of their own, the clan started growing at an increasingly prodigious rate (see below). With all this going on you might wonder how Don Facundo found time for the art of distillation, but thankfully he did and in 1862 he finally perfected the recipe that would make him famous.Today the company Don Facundo founded is still run by his descendants, only a handful of whom are permitted to know the secret of the Bacardi recipe. These are people who take rum very seriously. After all it’s in their blood.
