Jet Club’s layout remains unchanged from its days as Volcano the night- spot immortalised in Trainspotting but the venue‘s walls are now paved with broken mirrors and the pillars With glass marbles. A pool table has been installed in the alcove area and the overall ambience is relaxed yet gleaming.

To this new club comes Ground Control, the creation of DJ Kevin Dillon and MC Nordin. The night’s eclectic playlist features roots, dub, funk, hip hop, reggae and jungle combined With live vocals and percussion sets. The result is a refreshingly original musical excursion rare in Glasgow's club scene. ’It's not motorway music, it's the highroads and byroads,’ says Dillon. ’lt’s the scenic route of music.'

Both the night and its venue offer a pleasing detour from mainstream Clubland. Unfortunately, Ground Control’s residence at The Jet looks set to be curtailed —— a motorway is scheduled to be built right through the club in three months' time, While a reprieve might yet be granted, the venue’s potentially limited life span is another incentive to check out a shiny, happy night. (Sarah Lowndes)

Camille Warrington, student: 'Ground Control’s kinda a laugh: relaxed and amicable. You can have a bit of tomfoolery on the dancefloor. Jet Club's more spacious than the Volcano and quite pretty.’
