I Club Malaria at Archaos llpm—3.3()am. £5 (£4). New night that launches itself as Scotland's only charity club with all the proceeds going to schools for children with learning difficulties. DJ Vance is your host for the night. playing an uplifting mix of house anthems.

GLASGOW CLUBS THE Garage and Reds could face closure, depending on the outcome of a suspension hearing in late August. Although the licensing board cannot state the reasons for the hearing, the clubs were found to have exceeded their fire capacity after board members visited them six weeks ago. More details next issue.

IN EAST KILBRIDE, the club formerly known as Stork has been given an extensive refit with Colin Barr of the Apartment, Living Room and Jet, acting as creative consultant for Eagle Taverns. Now called Plush, the club opens on 4 September.

THE VELVET ROOMS has extended its main space, adding a new bar and a further 150 capacity to the club. Radio One's Trevor Nelson is to be a featured guest on 11 September.

AFTER CLOSING LAST month, Club X is to reopen at the end of September as Casbah a North African-style club pitching itself at people who want to go out, without necessarily going mad.

EDINBURGH CLUB THE Vaults is fighting to stay open after a problem over a licence application. Details are still sketchy, but things aren't looking too good. Sublime, the venue’s fortnightly Friday night

has decided to move back to its previous home at Wilkie House. Red On Red, the planned Saturday night with Charlie Chester, has never made it off the blocks.

GEORGE T FROM Tribal Funktion is enjoying a bit of a run at the moment. His Going Home E? on Aquarius Records has incited phone calls from Terry Farley, Crispin Glover and Ben Turner from Muzik magazine. His remix of Yogi Haughton's ‘Real House Negro' project on Imperial Records has also gone down well. Look out for his forthcoming Sideburns EP on NRK Records - under his Plastic Avengers guise. Love Boutique Phil Perry, one of the originators of the early house scene, guests tonight with resident hard house DJ Roy. Perry Runs Full Circle records and has worked with just about everyone on the scene from S-Express to Leftfield. The Arches, Sat 6 Sep.

Blame presents Logical Progression Blame is one of the unsung seminal drum 'n' bass producers who is now getting the recognition he deserves, and taking the ambassadorial role for Good Looking records passed to him by Bukem. Tin Pan Alley, Sat 30 Aug.

Pure Glasgow The whole of the Merchant’s City closes down for full-on dance action at nine arenas and much more for this massive event. Pure, Knucklehead, Cool Lemon, Daz Saund, Kemistry and Storm, KMC, Scarlet Lake, Nick Peacock and Jimmy Sommerville are all taking part. See feature, page 20 and Scarlet Lake Phactfile. Never Get Out The Boat Kings of the Scottish dance scene Stuart and Orde (Slam) with their only boat party of the year. Guaranteed to be one of the bigger knees-ups of the summer. Renfrew Ferry, Sat 30 Aug.

Red Cell The Red Cell crew bring their night to a close in anticipation of their imminent departure to Barcelona. In their time they’ve made the midweek credible with guests such as Dave Angel, Derrick May, Claude Young and Blake Baxter joining residents Mark Ryal, Kelvin Bridge, Lars and Dominic.
