Doors Open Day Various venues. info: 0141 221 1466. September sees a variety of doors which are often impenetrable being thrown open at the weekends for the public’s pleasure. ()ver 40 countries take part in the European Heritage Days and for seven years Scotland has been allowing its citizens free access to some architectural and historical landmarks. This year's highlights include Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian. Cockenzie Power Station in Prestonpans. Abbot House in Dunfermline and the first chance to see the SECC's new extension. The Armadillo. WALKATHON 97 Various venues, Glasgow info: 332 2211. The Walkathon Roadshow was launched earlier this year when HRH The Princess Royal met the event's mascot Shooey - that's him on the right. A joint

fundraiser between the Variet Club of Great Britain and the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland, t e walk invites Scots to partake in a fifteen-mile stroll along the pavements and grasses of Glasgow. The goal is to collect half a million for charities across the countr . Along the route is a range of entertainment and celebs to be announced.

THE CRAFT MOVEMENT CONTEMPORARY ARTS FAIR Assembly Rooms. George Street, Edinburgh, info: 01373 813333. Until Sun 21, 10am—6.30pm, £2.50 (free). The Craft Movement is now in its sixth year and its fairs provide a showcase for the finest workers in the field today. Most tastes and bank balances are catered for with a range from inexpensive designed mugs to customised furniture. Ceramics, jewellery, glassware, metal, textiles and wood are all utilised in this event. Check out the objets d'art which are the heirlooms of the future.
