Colin Barr

COLIN BARR IS BACK in The List’s club news again. The Glasgow entrepreneur whose interests include The Apartment, Lounge and Jet (and whatever Ron McCulloch doesn't own) has secured premises and a license for a club above The Mission, Battlefield Road, Glasgow. Also look out for a new pub venue

from Barr under Shenanigans on Holland Street in the New Year.

SOUNDSCAPE 97, Scotland’s first ever dance music conference, has been pulled four weeks before the planned date. The event was to have highlighted the wealth of creative talent in the dance industry from DJs to promoters, fashion to club art. The Jengaheads vs The Propellerheads event, which was due to take place at Jet on Sunday 7 Dec, will go ahead without Soundscape's involvement. MIDNIGHT BLUE, the jazz session formerly held on Sundays, has moved to a tasty new Friday night slot down at Cafe Graffiti. The night continues to promote a mix of live music and local DJs.

EDINBURGH HIP HOP act Blacka’nized have a new four track EP out on their own Yushl Productions label. Titled Unreleased Nuggets, it features contributions from MC Mello and is rather good.

TRIPTONITE NORTH AND IGUANA Cafe Bar, Edinburgh, plan to embark on a joint tour in 1998, in

association with Journeys By DJ and Bacardi Chillstream. DJs to participate are Jay Chappell, Jason Moore, Tomislav, Andrew Galea, Alan Thompson and Stuart Duncan. Anyone who hasn't been to Iguana recently might want to head down there for Gareth Sommerville on Fridays, Stuart Duncan on Saturdays and the occasional DJ from London’s Blue Note. While you're there, pick up a copy of lguana's stylish new mag One. (Rory Weller and Jim Byers)
