When it comes to naming those great screen partnerships — Bogart and Bacall, Tracy and Hepburn - it's unlikely that Ice Cube and Elizabeth Hurley will make the list. She's particularly bad as a stripper addicted to crack cocaine in Dangerous Game, which is a shame because the film's post-apartheid South African setting is fascinating and rapper Ice Cube gives an even better performance than his impressive debut in Boyz ’N The Hood.
Cube plays Vusi, a young man who fled Africa for America when a teenage political activist, now back for his father’s funeral. When his mother persuades him to search Johannesburg for his missing

brother, Steven, his eyes are opened to the reality of the new South Africa — car-jackings in Soweto, a drug culture developed by fellow black Africans. Teaming up with Steven's stripper girlfriend Karen, Vusi is forced to fight
violence with violence.
Dangerous Game is much more than a clever twist on the American street/drug/gang movie, although comparisons are drawn — the situation facing black South Africans today is close to that of the black ghettos in 705 America, when civil rights victories were cancelled out by a drugs boom. Vusi is an intriguing character, clearly more American now, whose link to his traditions is literally academic — he's studying for a PhD in African
Literature.
Ice Cube brilliantly portrays this young man's anger and shift into action, while director Darrell James Roodt captures the beauty of the country but is unsentimental in his view of a nation wasting its potential. Hurley, however, is rubbish and drags the movie down every time she's on screen.
