BARACHOIS: Superficially similar to the music of last year's Quebecois hit La Bottine Souriante, the centuries-old French tradition of Barachois comes from a tiny pocket of Acadien settlers who managed to avoid the British imperial and cultural domination of Nova Scotia and their home in Prince Edward Island. Be beguiled by the irresistible fiddle tunes, the traditional driving two-foot tapping, and homely vocal harmony.

Old Fruitmarket, Sun 18 Jan, 9pm, £9.50.
