intemational garage and house DJ Cevin Fisher has put down creative roots in Edinburgh with the IDNY label. Jim Byers gets Fisher‘s vital statistics before the 01 touches down in Glasgow.

Name Cevin Fisher.

Are you sure you've got that name right? Yes, it's C evin Fisher, pronounced with an ’s' as in the number seven, as opposed to Kevin with a 'k'.

Age 33.

Occupation Respected garage and house producer, remixer, international guest DJ.

Born East Orange, New Jersey, USA. Lives New York.

Previous history As a child, Fisher studied music, learning to play guitar, piano and drums. His father owned clubs in New Jersey, so he was around music from an early stage. His first DJing gigs from age fifteen were in his father's clubs.

The big break to 1988 he moved to New York to work as a studio engineer. Soon after, he gained valuable experience working with legendary Shakedown Studio boss Arthur Baker, and later Quincy Jones. His very first remix was of Chaka Khan‘s 'Love You All My Lifetime'.

Previous releases He has written, produced and remixed a mountain of records, but is best known for Sunday School‘s 'House is A Feeling', Kathy Brown's ’Turn Me Out‘, ‘Wet Dreams’ 'Rain’ and under his own name, ‘The Way We Used To' and ’Music Saved My Life’.

What else should we know about him? His 'Music Saved My Life' track was originally out on US label Maxi until it got re-released on Edinburgh's lDNY imprint with remixes from Ashley Beedle and The Soul Renegades.

What kind of DJ is be? He tends to play a real New York-style of garage, house and techno which can be soulful one minute, deep the next and hard in between. He's a bit like Angel Morales and Danny Tenaglia in that respect. Why is he called Cevin? He changed it from Kevin with a ‘k' to Cevin with a 'c' because he just felt like a change. But, he says “You can call me Kevin too, 'cos that‘s what my mom calls mel'

I Cevin Fisher guests at an IDNY Records night at Sub Club, Glasgow, Sat 7 Feb. ’Music Saved My Life’ is out soon on IDN Y Records.
