Club News

BURGER QUEEN BURGERS off this issue, with the last night of this sensationally popular glam house night at Edinburgh's Mercado, 6 Jun. Craig and Huggy have decided they just need more time to work on their other projects. With Radio One Essential Mixes, their label Rabushka and DJ bookings all round the world you can understand why. Still, they promise to come back after the summer with some extra-special events.

THE BASEMENT CLUB on Queen Street has now been bought by the company that owns The Garage. The club only opened a couple of months ago and has already played host to such leading luminaries as Slam, Oscar, Nick Peacock and Kevin McKay. No word of what the plans are for this venue, but the planned Mish Mash night will now take place up at The Apartment.

THE 23rd PRECINCT record shop at 36 Cockburn Street in

Edinburgh has now changed its name to Uber Disko. The place is still owned by Michael Kilkie and Barry, with glittering shop assistants Gareth Sommerville (Atomic Baby) and Mark Price (Taste) there to serve you. They've also got a worldwide mail order service on 0131 225 2232, which helps if you can't get it together to go down to the shop. Towards the end of the year we'll also hear the first releases from their new labels Platoon (trancey stuff) and F001 Boona (pumping Euro style). SCOTLAND’S BIGGEST CLUB,°Room at The Top celebrates a year of being a very large (yet pretty) shed in Bathgate. Sat 30 May is the date for the festivities with Tall Paul, Phil Perry and Craig Burger Queen. If you haven't been, check it out, just to see how huge it is. MTV were down a few weeks ago and had a great time. even though they couldn’t find anywhere for munchies afterwards.

I Hi Karate at Glasgow School ofArt (upstairs). lOpm—2.30am. Free. The Hi Karate duo of Neil McMillan and Andrew Divine kick up the funky break beats to a large and loyal crowd. This one is reallyjumping tonight.

I love Infection at Strathclyde University Students Union (Level 5). 10pm—3am. Free. The Crucial Vibes crew of Gus and Stevie. who play every other Friday night at The Bedsit. with a new reggae night up at Strathclyde.

I Pusher 13 at The 13th Note (ground floor). 1 1pm—3am. £2. Weekly night from Jilkes and Hatch of Knucklehead (Art School. Sats) giving up electro funk beats to a crowd following on from their Variety pub gig. Getting pretty busy down there on a Thursday night.

I Reggae Ravers at The Lime. 10.30pm—3am. £4 (£3/£2 before I lpm). 4 June and fortnightly. DJ Jake with a new roots reggae night run by the same crew who put on the Salsamania nights.

Sub Club, Thu 28 Jun. Cream Cream takes a bit of a speed garage direction this month, with headlining guests Tim & Omar from RIP (see panel) and Matt Jam Lamont.
