Name Turf lam.

no, real names, please Matt ’lam‘ Lamont and Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown. Those are their ‘real’ names, are they? 'Fraid so, boss.

Occupation Kings of the UK underground garage scene, the scene formerly known as speed garage. aka raggage, aka Sunday Scene garage, aka gangsta garage.

Sounds like Skippy sweet garage wrth a sharp sexy soulful edge.

Not to be confused with RIP, l87 _Lockdown, Dreem Teem, Booker T. Ages Thirtysomethings.

Appearance Big, black, squarejawed, muscular hunks of lurrvel

Attitude Very serious, very professional; no drinking, no smoking and certainly no drugs.

draftsman in the building trade, while Karl, for his sins, was part of 805 rap group Double Trouble.

Past form Matt and Karl were instrumental in the development of London's underground garage scene in the early 90s. Matt's seminal residencies

and later Twice As Nice, helped to steer the original New York house sound of the day towards a new, speeded-up British sound.

Music-making moments Turf lam have made tons of tracks for various underground labels, but they made a name for themselves through a series of high profile remixes.

What, so they don’t actually make their own music, they just get paid loads for touching up other people’s hard work? Well, you may have a point there. With the exception of scene anthem ’Just Gets Better' (as TJR) and the recent 'Need Good Love’ single, Tuff Jam have ridden into town on the back of several high profile artists, including Rosie Gaines, Brand New Heavies, Coolio, Usher and En Vogue.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me Well, you might think so, but their first Underground Frequencies album, a compilation of their best remixes, sold over 75, 000 copies and they landed a primetime, Saturday evening show on Kiss FM as a result,

What can you expect from them? DJ~ Wise, they are committed to playing the best in both UK and US house and garage. (Jim Byers)
