Primal Screen

This is the kind of quaint local pastime the Scottish Tourist Board omits from the brochures. Beneath the jester’s costume is Edward Woodward, a devoutly religious cop who comes to a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a schoolgirl, only to uncover a community soaked in pagan rituals. The Wicker Man is part of Primal Screen, a tour of cult movies sponsored by Stella Artois. Other not-to-be-missed titles st0pping off in Glasgow and Edinburgh are Dr Strange/ove, Dark Star and Akira. (Alan Morrison)

The Wicker Man is at the Gi/morehi/l Centre, G/asgow on Sat 24 Oct & Edinburgh Fi/mhouse on Sat 37 Oct. See film listings, page 38.

TAST

Toast

Gone are the days when a mug of instant and a cremated slab of sliced white could be confidently called breakfast. Open 8am—8pm, Toast IS a smart new cafe in Glasgow’s Merchant City dedicated to delighting you with gourmet coffees and deli toasts. Pecorino, sun-dried tomato and basil on tomato crabatta rather puts your limp cheese bap to shame, doesn’t it? (Peter Ross)

Toast, 86 Albion Street, G/asgow. See food news, page 708.
