Erick 'tvlore' Morillo was born and bred

take on American house. Rory Weller

checks out this ultra-popular Di and

: producer.

Name? Erick ‘More' Morillo.

,: Occupation? DJ, producer and record

1 label boss of Subliminal. Place of birth? New York. Age?28. What should we know him for? His biggest success was with his outfit Reel 2 Real’s ‘1 Like To Move lt' which went platinum in Holland and gold in the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Australia. Was this not monumentally cheesy? True enough, but l bet you danced to it. Moritlo realised after it got so big that he was being seen as a pop act, rather than the sericius underground 0) that he was. Although Reel 2 Real continued, he threw more energy into projects like Smooth Touch (releasing ’ln My House') and his collection wrth Louie Vega for Li'l lvlo’ Ying Yang's ‘Reach' amongst other protects

. How did he begin? He got his first mixer and decks when he was l2 and played for school and house parties. At this age he was taking it rather seriously ‘- he even got business cards made up for himself. Was he instantly a success? Reasoiiably, but he let it slide with too much partying. He got back into the Swrng Of it when he was 19 and saw a TV ad for the New York Centre of Media Arts learning how to produce.

' Was he a good student? He came top

of the class. When he finished the six month (Ourse, he set up a studio in his basement which he called Double Platinum with help of a loan from his man and started making music. Little Lorrie Vega's 'Hardrive EP’ and Barbara Tucker's ’Deep Inside' were both recorded here Why is he called ‘More’? He was given this name by Strictly Rhythm’s Gladys Pizarro hr cause he delivered more mixes

than anyone else. What is he up to now? He started Subliminal Records in '97, won Best

House D) in Muzik's )biza Awards last year and continues to produce and remix. Basement laxx’s 'Red Alert‘ is

Currently out With a Morillo remix. Erick Mon/lo 015 at Colours at The Arches, Sat 8 May.
