Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival Listings

Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival takes place between Fri 30 Jul-Sun 8 Aug. Tickets for all concerts (except for Van Morrison at The Playhouse, 557 2590) are available from the Queen’s Hall, 668 2019, and the Assembly Rooms, 220 4349. Tickets for concerts at The Hub are also available from the Festival 80x Office, 473 2000. Some tickets may be available on the door, depending on availability. I Scottish National Jazz Orchestra The Hub. ('astlehill. Royal Mile. 473 2000. 8pm. £20-£25. A lavish opening to the festival in this Gala Concert focusing on the music of Duke Ellington. if you've been on Mars. you may not know this is the centenary of Duke‘s birth. and Tommy Smith and his musicians will be joined by several stellar guests to launch this exciting new venue. including Joe 'l'emperley'. Bobby Watson and Carol Kidd. I Greg Osby Quartet The Liquid Room. Victoria Street. 225 2564. 8pm. ill). The saxophonist‘s Scottish debut is one of the most enticing items on the programme. I Climax Jazz Band & Barcelona Milan Band The Hub. Castlehill. Royal Mile. 473 2000. l lpm. £5. A reunion froin one of Edinburgh’s most famous traditional jazz outfits. the Climax Jazz Band. plus a festival debttt for this Spanish-Italian quintet.

I Jason Moran Trio The Hub. Castlehill. Royal Mile. 473 2000. l2.30pm. £6. Pianist Jason Moran is a member of the Greg Osby Quartet. but has recently released his debut album and gets his own slot here.

I Joe Temperley Quartet The Hub. Castlehill. Royal Mile. 473 2000. 3pm. £7.50. The great Fife-born. New York- based saxman leads his own quartet in this gig. one of several appearances around the festival for the baritone specialist.

I Edsel Gomez Group Counting House. West Nicolson Street. 668 20l9. 7.30pm. £l0. Puerto Rican pianist Edsel Gomez is best known as a part of David Sanchez‘s group. bttt his own colourful take on Latin-jazz will feature here.
