This Scottish comedy veteran has not been seen too often of recent years among his aen folk, so this Edinburgh gig will present a rare opportunity for audiences to sample his particular brand of sarcastic irony. Stu Who?'s act is less stand-up than wind-up, as he provokes his audience with twisted metaphors and allegorical tales which often lead his audience up a blind alley of angry incomprehension, mixed with a great deal of laughter. He recalls a recent gig in London which illustrates the effect he has on audiences: 'After this gig, I got two complaints about the act from audience members. One said the act was homophobic. and the other said I was offensive be::'-use I offered every guy in the audience a blow-job. These people need to get a bit of perspective.’
The problems seem to be impediments only for the hard of thinking, since there is a detachment in his humour which allows us to tune in to the irony if we want to, or be provoked if we don't. 'l'm not really PC in the way that some comics are'. he remarks, 'but there's stuff there to think about if you’re able to.’ This West Coast comic will not be playing the Festival for both aesthetic and financial reasons: ‘It's a middle-class nonces' institution and I’m a working-class comic; besides, while all the other comics struggle to pull an audience in the festival, I go round the rest of the country and
