COMEDY REVIEW

Krasky Vostoka (Colours Of The East)

* it *

Extended clowning by an exotically

dressed troupe has its highs and lows. The latter is a scene building up to a

line of collossal-shoed clowns looking

up each others' arses, culminating in a fart; the highs include a variation on the naked ostrich feather routine, only with ever-decreasing scraps of paper, and a game of billiards, with clowns for balls.

A Kung Fu tumbling and juggling routine is incredible enough the first time round: then they do it in slo-mo and rewind. Bizarre breath of fresh air, with lots of conventions in tatters along the way. (Gabe Stewart)

I Krasky Vostoka (Colours Of The East) (Fringe) Observer Assembly (Venue 3) 226 2428, until 30 Aug, 2.40pm, £9.50/£8.50 (£8. 50/f 7.50).

DANCE REVIEW

Mozart Preposteroso

Representing one of the world's most famous deceased composers as a clown, using a blend of dance, mime

and puppetry may not seem an appropriate way in which to document

Mozart is wordless

his life. However, Nola Rae’s production uses these means to celebrate the existence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart without in any way belittling him.

Portrayals of the child prodigy’s relationship with his overbearing father, courtship of his wife, ostracism from polite society and untimely death at the age of 35, don’t sound like much of a side splitter. But Rae's tomfoolery (which includes the composer playing darts with quills as a form of work avoidance) renders this story both humorous and engaging. (Dawn Kofie)
