RUBEN PARIS

I looklng for Eden: Cralg Burger Queen

Earlier this year The Shooting Gallery, one of the few clubs of note outside the Old Town area, was forced to close due to noise complaints. Rather than give up on the venue, the apartments above were bought; now, opening on the same site is a fully refurbished (and sound proofed) Eden.

The brainchild of Gerry Ritchie, owner of The Outhouse and Noa, the venue's coup has to be Craig Burger Queen, the Saturday night resident with his own

new house night, Bohemia.

Explaining the philosophy behind the venue, promotions manager Rik Weightman says: 'We don't have any strict music or dress policy; at the end of the day, it’s an over the top yet comfortable place - we just want people to enjoy

themselves.’

And over the top it most certainly is. Formerly the Stakis Casino and before that a ballroom, the venue's vestiges of its former incarnations have been complemented by lavish decor which makes it look like a stylish rather than sleazy - bordello. Upstairs in the ballroom, murals depicting sections of paintings by Botticelli and Rubens adorn the walls while the Cocteau Room downstairs has a distinctly Oriental feel. The garden which adjoins The Outhouse will also be used. Which means that Eden should be one of the more enjoyable venues to

visit in the captial. (Dawn Kofie)
