As Scotland enters the new millennium, this major exhibition brings together art from both civic and university collections from all over the country. Comprising painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography, the show features the work of the Scottish Colourists, the Glasgow Boys, Allan Ramsay, Henry Raeburn among others, to contemporary artists Alan Davie, John Bellany, Eduardo Paolozzi, Elizabeth Blackadder and Peter Howson.
An Infinite Storm Of Beauty Until Sat 2 Oct. A celebratory exhibition on the life and achievements of Scottish-bom conservationist John Muir, who was known as the ‘father of the American National Parks’.

Mike Nelson - In Memory Of H.P. Lovecraft Until Sun 26 Sep. Artist Mike Nelson creates a site-specific piece based on a short story by Jorge Luis Borges, in this his first major show in Scotland. See review.
Everything Must Go! Until Sun 26 Sep. The gallery’s project room becomes an art shop during the festival with the chance to purchase an art work by some of Scotland’s emerging contemporary artists.

THE DEAN GALLERY

Situated opposite the National Gallery of Modern Art, the new Dean Gallery is entirely devoted to art of the 20th century. A former 19th century orphanage, it houses a large collection of work by Eduardo Paolozzi, as well as outstanding works drawn from the National Galleries’ Dada and Surrealist collections by Giacometti, Picabia, Max Ernst and others. The upper galleries are given over to temporary exhibitions.
New Work By Gary Hume Until Sun 17 Oct. £2.50 (£1.50). Famed London-based artist Gary Hume who exhibited in the much talked about Sensation show, and is currently representing Britain at the 1999 Venice Biennale, shows new work. Using high-gloss paint on panels of aluminium, Hume’s paintings deal in the psychology of colour and delivers pure visual sensation.
