Principals from D’Oyly Carte and Scottish Opera and 200 singers from throughout Scotland mount a fully-staged production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers after just 24 hours rehearsal. The 25-strong Dublin choir perform a programme of choral works by Brahms, Byrd, Bach and Irish contemporary composers Barry and Groocock.

The ensemble celebrate their 30th anniversary with two concerts, the first of which is aimed specially at children. Narrator Tim Settle joins the musicians for the perennial favourite Peter/1nd The Wolf, followed by a huge birthday cake and party bags for all the kids.
I BT Scottish Ensemble 30th Birthday Concert Royal Concert Hall, 2 Sauchiehall Street, 287 5511. 7.45pm. £11 (£7.50). The second of the day’s concerts sees the ensemble in full celebratory mode, as they look back over 30 tuneful years with a blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. On the bill tonight are Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with soloists Clio Gould on violin and Gillianne Haddow on viola, followed by Piers Hellawell’s Sound Carvings from the Water ’3 Edge, Ttppett’s Little Music For Strings and rounding off with Mendelssohn’s Octet. Piers Hellawell will give a pre-concert talk in the foyer at 6.45pm, and the audience are invited to join the ensemble for a complementary interval drink.
