The shockwaves resounded around the office like a tsunami when we heard of their late booking: David Holmes is coming, David Holmes is coming! The Northern lrish techno god, widely renowned and adored for his fairly leftficld tunes and unusual samples will be playing an alternative set (ie not techno) we are told. He is, by the way, currently in the studio working on his new album, due for release later on in the year. He will be joining the Pure residencies who are probably more excited by this coup than we are, but only just. See you at the front.

I Radio Babylon at The Bongo Club. 10.30pm—3am. £6 (£4). 10 Sep only. Renegade Communications present two rooms of funk, dub reggae, hip hop and ‘psikerdelic jazz’ from DJs Barry James, Kelvin Bridge and guests.

Ben Davis is the guest DJ tonight while Shaboom featuring Taka Boom perform a live PA. Responsible for the brilliant ‘Sweet Sensation’ house tune that so many have been raving about, this is a fine chance to see them in the flesh. Murray Richardson is the resident for the night.

Murray Richardson’s essential night of all things deep house is still going strong and attracting the finest crowds . . . after all, we’re there. In the main room Kev Wright will be unleashing one of his three hour sets (gm) while ldge supports and the back room sees a big welcome back for the Gary Mac who returns after a year humming round Down Under. He takes over from Beany and joins Felix for a masterful mix of electro, nu skool, classics and the like.

Monthly. Alan Joy’s little sojourn into the strict dress code realm has received loads of attention. The music policy’s pretty much the same as Mingin’ but, and this is a big ‘but’, you must make an effort with your clothes, be it fetish, sexual, topless . . . no spectators allowed.

I Fire Island at Wilkie House. lOpm-3am. £5 before 11pm; £10 after. 11 Sep. Monthly. A night of balloons and party hats for the Fire Island crowd it’s their third birthday. To celebrate, they’ve invited one of their most favourite guests along, Trade’s Steve Thomas, for a blistering three hour set (‘cause it’s their third birthday, a three hour set, see?) of the finest hard house. He will be supported in the main room by Chris Boume while Marco mans the back room with retrospective quality grooves. Essential night.

I Jazz Joint at Henry’s Cellar Bar. lOpm—3am. £6 (£5). Weekly. Sister Soul (11 Sep) provide a triple bill of female jazz and soul vocalists with support from the wonderful DJ kau; The Ugly Groove Movement (18 Sep) showcase their ten-piece funk sounds with support from the downright fantastic Kulu.

Expect Maggie & Alan to be leading the way in their finest form with house, techno and trance with tops off.
