GLASGOW THURSDAYS

I 1210 at Babaza. 8pm-3am (bar open from 6pm). £4 (£3). Weekly. New night where it’s the music that counts, with residents Ian Thomson and David Gilmore battling it out between each other playing house, garage and trance. They say it’s a night for serious music heads, and the extra serious ones can take part in their showcase of young DJ talent between 8-11pm. Call the club for details of how to have a go.

I Bennet's at Bennet’s. 11pm-3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Contemporary house from Annie and Grant. Gay.

I The Big Chill at The Arches. 9pm—3am. £12 (£10). 30 Sep only. The Big Chill, described by Mixmag as ‘the greatest chill-out club in the cosmos’, floats into Scotland for the first time ever. The massive night features Fila Brazilia from Pork (live), Instrumental, a string sextet doing dance covers, Global Communications/Cosmos’ Tom Middleton, Mr Scruff (Scratch Perverts), and Big Chill head honcho Pete Lawrence. Coldcut’s visual arm Hexstatic and VJ Glimpse give the visuals, plus contemporary dance from Kirsty Little and there’s even a web cafe too. Turn up, sit down, chill out. I Cafe Coco at The Velvet Rooms. llpm—3am. £4 (£3). New night at the Velvets with Paul Melon in the front with a poppy party mix and Rory Weller playing the big dance tunes out the back in the club room.

I Cop at Archaos. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Massive student night, with party house anthems in the main room from the residents plus the added attraction of the Archaos flying dancers. Tam Coyle does his kitschy party sing-along in the room downstairs and up in the exclusive Sky Bar they’ve got Sky Cop with Ryan Kerr.

I Dee lays In Disguise at Variety. 8pm-close. Free. Weekly. Super underground dubby mix of techno and electronica from the guys who do Saturday up at the Art School - Hatch and Jilkes of Knucklehead (My Machines).

I Dazed 8: Confused at The Queen Margaret Student Union. 7.30pm-2am. £tbc. Students and up to four guests. Weekly. New night with live gigs in some shape or form until 10.30pm when the DJ takes over for retro madness of funk, soul, classic indie, pop and movie soundtracks.

I Fatboy’s Kitchen at McChuill’s Way Out West. 8—11pm. Free. Weekly. Big beat and hip hop.

I fnult at The Apartment. llpm-3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Upfront house from Billy Milligan and Stephen Foy playing to a good looking slightly older crowd.

I Freedom at The Shed. 10pm-3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Southside action with Paul N’Jie in the main hall playing funk, garage and chart house.

I Free Flow at Glasgow School Of Art (downstairs). 9pm-2am. £1 (students and guests). Weekly. Northern soul, funk flavour, jazzy breaks and beats, hip hop, movie soundtracks and drum & bass in the Vic Bar.

I Funky Fursdays at Planet Peach. 11pm—3.15am. £3 (£2). Weekly. DJ Stevie G playing funky disco.

I Hi Karate at the Glasgow School of Art (upstairs). 10pm-2am. £1. Weekly. Neil McMillan and Andrew Divine scissor-kicking a furious funk vibe into Thursday nights with this deep down and dirty storrner of a night. A masterful combination of hip hop, soul, funk, electro, jump-up, ragga and reggae. 30 Sep, Hi Karate returns to full strength after a laid back summer. Look out for the HIK second birthday 15 Oct.

I Kenny H at The Cul De Sac. 9pm-midnight. Free. Weekly. Pre-club. Eclectic funky imports from Kenny H. I Last Exit at Club Budda. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Inside Out/The Ark’s Simon Foy playing a steady mix of house anthems and commercial garage.

I Liuard Lounge at The Arches. 9pm-late. £8 (£7). 7 Oct only. Edinburgh’s phenomenally successful night comes through to Glasgow for the first time ever, as part of the funcT festival. Super hot and sexy Latin, jazz, salsa and hip hop from resident Joseph Malik, The Blacka’nized DJs, Jamaican dance hall queen Nubia (live), Venezuelan Salsero Carlos Pena and his Latin Orchestra, Latino 2000 fusing drum and bass and Latino fire and singers from the Grupo Cutumba (Santiago). I Salsa Sabrosa at Havana. Weekly. lOpm—3am. Quality Latin dance grooves. barrio beats and salsa from New York, Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I Skint at The Cathouse. 11pm-3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Indie/rock/chemical beats and hip hop at Scotland’s number one rock club.

I Superstar at Trash. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Studenty mix of indie, pop and arty house.

I Virunga at Brel. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. DJ Tchico revives the night he did at the Volcano a few years ago playing upbeat Latin, African, soca, reggae, dub and R&B.

I Wanna Play? at The Tunnel. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2.50 with matric card). Weekly. The Tunnel’s student night, with Kevin and Scott from weekends at the Tunnel, joined by Lisa Littlewood, mixing an accessible spread of contemporary house anthems and timeless classics.

I Yang at Yang. llpm—3am (bar open from 6pm). £3 (£2); free before midnight. Weekly. Elevation Trio, Glasgow-based funk collective play live every week in the bar, while residents Bob Peck & Charlie Inman mix up hip hop & soul to funk breaks and house in room two. 23 Sep, The Orb’s Alex Paterson makes another appearance at the club in the back room alongside Dribbler. 30 Sep, Manchester’s Unabombers join Muchaill.
