Edinburgh ClUbS

I Black Projects at La Belle Angele. 11pm—3am. £4. 7 Oct. Monthly. After the closing of The Honeycomb, Black Projects are one of the lucky few to find a suitable home. They move their monthly studenty take on all things house, hip hop and drum & bass, much to the relief of their loyal crowd. They arrive at La Belle with a splash when Glasgow‘s Harri (Sub Club) guests tonight.

I Block-Party at Noa. 10pm—3am. £3 (£2.50). 7 Oct and weekly. A brand new night adding a bit of kudos to the West End club scene. The Headspin lads are taking over the mighty fine Noa for a bit of ‘hip hop, break beat, drum & bass and nu skool breaks’ with a long line-up of local talent playing over two rooms. Make sure you get down and check it out. I Bubbalicious at Club Mercado. 10.30pm-3am. £4 (£3 with flyer). Weekly. I Dysfunction at The Venue. 10.30pm—late. Price tbc. 14 Oct. Fortnightly. A brand new night of ‘uncompromising rock - think Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails and Deftones and you’re getting there.’

I Future Primitive at The Venue. 10pm—3am. £2. 7 Oct. Monthly. A new monthly night of quality dance right across the spectrum. What starts on a downtempo electro tip moves into dubby house, then slamming techno and hard house and finally into the 1994—96 jump up jungle era for ‘the stamina crew’. Absolute respect to anyone starting a new night in Edinburgh at the moment (squeezing a Sumo wrestler through a keyhole would be an easier mission) and a double ‘nice one’ for trying something a little different. Show your support,

peogle.

I raduate at Gaia. 9pm—3am. Free before midnight; £3 after. Weekly. The name says it all - a student night with ludicrously cheap bevvy all night. As if it matters at these things, but there’s full on party music on the main floor, low ft and electro upstairs.

I Hip Hop Night at La Belle Angele. 11pm—3am. £4. 21 Oct. Monthly. A night so new there’s not even a proper name for it yet. All that we’ve gleaned from the promoters is that there’ll be hip hop and drum & bass, no doubt there’ll be more details closer to the time. We hope.

I Jazz Joint at Henry’s Cellar Bar. 10pm—3am. £5 (£4). Weekly. The Syliva Rae Quartet provide modern mainstream

I Mode Organic at The Citrus Club. 11pm—3am. £2. Weekly. Ska, mod, Northern soul and 605 beats.

I Motherfunk at The Venue. 10.30pm—3am. Price tbc. 21 Oct only. A one-off special to celebrate Motherfunk’s third birthday. The exceptionally popular Tuesday nighter that has packed ‘em in with a mix of hip hop, funk and soul, throws in an extra night for kicks. The fact that they could get Mr Giles Petterson as well probably helped. The owner and founder of Talkin’ Loud Records (who signed, among others, Roni Size) is adored for his eclectic hip hop, jazz, drum & bass and soul and tonight will be a highlight of the calendar for consumers of quality music. I Barry Cabanas at Eden. 11pm-3am. £6.99 (£5.99 members; £5 nutty dressers). 15 Oct. Monthly. It seems like only yesterday that we blagged our way into a certain launch party and were offended by lots of hardcore pornography proudly plastered (with what adhesive, we’d rather not know) throughout the toilets. Believe it or not, it has been a whole year since Barry’s first opened their doors to the misguided who love nothing more than dressing up and baring their souls (among other bits) to the world. We would like to go all teary-eyed and reminisce about all the madcap nights, but we know that they would tell us to shut up and stop being such a girl, so bugger it, here’s the line-up instead. Seeing as the Cuban Brothers are off
