GLASGOW THURSDAYS

I 1210 at Babaza. 8pm-3am (but open as a bar from 6pm). £4 (£3). Weekly. New night where it’s the music that counts, with residents lan Thomson and David Gilmore battling it out between each other playing house, garage and trance. They say it’s a night for serious music heads, and the extra serious ones can take part in their showcase of young DJ talent between 8 and 11pm. Call the club for details of how to have a go.

I Blood at The Sub Club. llpm-3am. £4 (£3). Back now after their summer recess, Blood relaunches 21 Oct with the all-star funk house residents Paul ’Prince of Darkness’ Flynn, Lawrence ’hound of Satan’ Hughes and Kieran ’The lmpaler’ McCann.

I Breakin' Point at The 13th Note Club (Clyde Street - basement). 9pm-3am. £2 (free before 11pm). Breaks with special guests Ground Control.

I Cafe Coco at The Velvet Rooms. 11pm-3am. £4 (£3). Paul Melon in the front with a poppy party mix and Rory Weller playing the big dance tunes out the back in the club room.

I Club Class at Alaska. llpm-3am. £5 (£4). New night of high grade house and garage from Stevie Middleton, Chris Harris, Michael Kilkie and Geoff Montford. I Cop at Archaos. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Massive student night, with party house anthems in the main room from the residents plus the added attraction of the Archaos flying dancers. Tam Coyle does his kitschy party singalong in the room downstairs and up in the exclusive Sky Bar they’ve got Sky Cop with Ryan Kerr.

I Dee Jays In Disguise at Variety. 8pm—close. Free. Weekly. Super underground dubby mix of techno and electronica from the Knucklehead guys. I Dazed 8: Confused at The Queen Margaret Student Union. 7.30pm-2am. Price tbc. Students and up to four guests. Weekly. New night with live gigs in some shape or form until 10.30pm when the DJ takes over for retro madness of funk, soul, classic indie, pop and movie soundtracks.

I Edwards at Edwards Bar. 9pm-midnight. Free. Weekly pre-club. Warm up for the weekend with a clubby mix from Keith Pyper.

I fnult at The Apartment. 11pm-3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Upfront house from Billy Milligan and Stephen Foy playing to a good looking slightly older crowd.

I Freedom at The Shed. 10pm-3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Southside action with Paul N ’Jie in the main hall playing funk, garage and chart house.

I Funky Fursdays at Planet Peach. llpm—3.15am. £3 (£2). Weekly. DJ Stevie G playing funky disco.

I Hi Karate at the Glasgow School of Art (upstairs). 10pm-2am. £1. Weekly. Neil McMillan and Andrew Divine’s scissor-kicking a furious funk vibe into Thursday nights with this deep down and dirty stonner of a night. A commanding combination of hip hop, soul, funk, electro, jump-up, ragga and reggae.

I Last Exit at Club Budda. llpm-3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Inside Out/The Ark’s Simon Foy playing a solid mix of house anthems and commercial garage.

I Loveshack at Fury Murry’s. llpm—3.15am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Classic indie, house and disco sounds from Jim Downie.

I MFI at Universe (Coatbridge). 11pm-2.30am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Mix of contemporary house and retro classics with a disco edge all brought to you by the inimitable Ewan McLeod and DJ Bob.

I Now Is That What I Call Music at The 13th Note Club (Clyde Street, ground floor). 9pm-3am. £3 (free before 11pm). Eclectic mix from Squarepusher to Talking Heads.

I Picante at Reds. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. DJ Skud with hot and spicy house with a Latin edge.

I Religion at The Arches. llpm-3am. £7. 28 Oct only. New series of nights in various venues around the city with big name guests playing every time. First up in the night which also celebrates the opening of the new Virgin Megastore are serial nutters Brandon Block and Alex P. They’ll be joining the residents Andy Guest, Ryan Mathie and Allan Belshaw, not only at The Arches for a full on house extravaganza, but at October Cafe and Candybar from 10pm.

I Rumble at The Garage. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. One of the original good time, mental student nights with charty dance faves, movie tunes and indie classics. Su r busy.

I Salsa Sa rosa at Havana. Weekly. 10.30pm-3am. £4 (£3). Quality Latin dance grooves, barrio beats and salsa from New York, Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I Skint at The Cathouse. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. lndie/rock/chemical beats and hip hop at Scotland’s number one rock club.

I Soundpresence at The Temple. 10pm—3am. £5. 21 Oct and monthly. The continuation of this massive series of events, with tonight’s gig going on more of a hip hop slant than before, thanks to headliner Tim Westwood joining the party. We’re also going to be treated to a live show from Shola Arm and DJ sets from Femi Fem (Young Disciples) and the local gang of Paul N’Jie and Naeem. I Superstar at Trash. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Studenty mix of indie, pop and party house.

I Tune! at g2. 11pm-3am. £3 (£2) free entry before 11.30pm. Weekly. New night of the latest house, trance and Ibiza classics from Simon Morrison and Andy Horn

I Tunnel Thursdays at The Tunnel. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3 with matric card). Weekly. The Tunnel’s student night, with Kevin and Scott from weekends at the Tunnel, joined by Lisa Littlewood, mixing an accessible spread of contemporary house anthems and timeless classics.

I Virunga at Brel. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. DJ Tchico revives the night he did at the Volcano a few years ago playing upbeat Latin, African, soca, reggae, dub, and R&B.

I Yang at Yang. 11pm-3am (bar open from 6pm). £3 (£2); free before midnight. Weekly. Elevation Trio, Glasgow-based funk collective play live every week in the bar, while residents Bob Peck & Charlie lnman mix up hip hop and soul to funk breaks and house in room two. 21 Oct Duty Free with Dribbler and Yogi Haughton playing nu school garage and house, 28 Oct Mystec (crazy acid manipulations), 4 Nov Foresight, 11 Nov Goodfoot.

GLASGOW FRIDAYS

I Apartment at The Apartment. llpm-3am. £8. Weekly. Jim Da Best playing a clubby party mix at this good looking venue, with even better looking. clientele.

I The Ark at The Tunnel. 10.30pm—3am. £7 (£5). Weekly. Michael Kilkie, Scott Mackay and Zammo (Rhumba) living it large in the main room throwing out thumping hard house as good as you’ll get anywhere in the country. Then there’s Simon Foy in the backroom with more party mix of vocal house and garage.

I Bario 212 at Alaska. 11pm—3am. £6 (£5). Weekly. Newly named night with some of the elements from Fridays in Alaska before but now with added Traxx DJs Simon and Derek joining Nick Peacock and Muchail for gorgeously

deep house, funk, jau, soul, plus live percussion from RSAMD graduates Drew Horne and lain Sandilands.

I Bennet's 11.30pm-3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Grant Duff downstairs with an upbeat dance night, then DJ Shawn for hand bag house upstairs. Gay.

I Big Daddy The 13th Note Club (upstairs). 11pm—3am. £4 (free before 11pm) (includes access to Yum Yum downstairs too). Weekly. Big Daddy with funk and Northern soul, now promoted from the midweek slot to this weekend gig. I Blowfly Disco at The Glasgow School Of Art. 10pm—2.30am. £4.50 (£3.50). 22 Oct and fortnightly. Guys from Bughouse with an electro and hard house mix. Price includes entry to Turbulence too.

I Budda at Bar Budda. 8pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Pre-club. Chris Harris with a chunk house pre-club warmer.

I Bud asole at Club Budda. 11pm-3am. £5. Weekly. Stevie Middleton, internationally renowned DJ and owner of Sole Music Records, continuing upstairs with his own particular brand of American deep house and garage for the people who’ve been dancing on the tables down in Bar Budda earlier.

I Bughouse at Balsa. 9pm-midnight. Free. Weekly. Pre-club. Despite getting turfed out of g2, Dan and Chris continue with their choice cuts and meaty house at this city centre bar.

I Bump 'n' Hustle at Babaza. 6pm-3am (DJs from 11pm). £5 (free before 11pm). Weekly. A celebration of black music from Paul Traynor after Jamie Strang warms things up with funky R&B.

I Carwash at g2. 11pm—3am. £3 (£2). New party night of disco, funk and soul from Jerry Lyons (Garage).

I The Cathouse at The Cathouse. 10.30pm-3am. £4 (£3); £1 before 11.30pm. Weekly. Three floors of rock, hip hop, chemical beats, grunge and contemporary indie.

I Cheesy Pop at The Queen Margaret Union. 10pm—2am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Students and four guests. lt’s cheesy and it’s poppy and it’s just unbridled fun all the way, brought to you by DJ Toast. Seven years doing the fromage fandango and still going strong. 29 Oct Hallowe’en special.

I Columbian at The Asylum Back Room (Caledonian University Students Union). 8pm—1am. £1 (free to CUSU members). Weekly. Funk, hip hop, soul and big beat which they describe as ’low slung eclectic beats’, and who are we to question them.

I Crash at The Shed. 10pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Dave Ross playing an eclectic mix of kitsch classics at this Southside club from the team behind The Gara e.

I Cu De Sac at Cul De Sac Bar. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Pre-club. Anton and Doug with pre-club head phunk. I Edwards at Edwards Bar. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly pre-club. Keith Pyper with a fresh and upbeat warmer.

I Fiesta Espanola at DeQuincey’s. 5—9pm. Free. Weekly. DJ Jazz with a weekend warmer of rumba and nuevo flamenco.

I GBX at The Temple. 11pm—3.30am. £6 (£4). Weekly. Radio Clyde’s George Bowie and international DJ producer Trevor Reilly (Manifesto) playing hard house through to the trancier and funkier house anthems.

I Global at Universe (Coatbridge). 11pm-2.45am. £5. Weekly. Kevin McFarlane and Stephen Lee, both from the Tunnel with a night of garage, disco, vocal house and the biggest party tunes. I Gold 'n' Delicious at Archaos. 11pm-3am. £6 (£4). Weekly. David Gilmore and Ryan Kerr playing quality house and garage amid the spectacle of the Friday night acts. Bungee jumping acrobats, stilt walkers and much madness. Jamie Strang also plays soul and R&B in barone. Up in the Sky Bar Mathew Morton plays R&B, funk and garage.

Pressure It's been a year since Slam started spoiling us with their Pressure nights and oh my God how the damage continues. Tonight it's another belter with Canada's techno god Richie Hawtin firing his Decks, EFX & 909, Stacey Pullen, Soma's Envoy (live), Allan Sims (Shine - Belfast) and the residents Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle. The Arches, Fri 29 Oct.

Psy Phi Gilles Peterson's show on Radio 1 is essential listening for anyone who wants to hear the most advanced drum & bass, hip hop, jazz and soul. Tonight the guy behind Talkin' Loud stops off on his nationwide tour to join Psy-phi residents Paul Cawley (Fenetik) and Alex Horton for a guaranteed sell out night. Get down early. Tangent A-man and Panic welcome along new arrival to these shores - Cosmo. Before moving to Blighty she was a resident at the seminal Loft in New York alongside Frankie Knuckles and now is one of the Thursday and Sunday Dls at Home. The Sub Club, Fri 29 Oct.

Inside Out Glam house of the highest order with three of the finest club stompers Tall Paul, Sister Bliss and Darren Stokes joining the trio of resident twisted turntablists Simon Foy, Michael Kilkie and Zammo. The Arches, Sat 30 Oct.

Pure Back again after far too long, Pure welcome the extraordinarily intense Dave Tarrida (Sativae/Drought) and Johnny Dangerous. Tarrida flies in specially from his new home of Barcelona and JohnnyDangerous gets his second Pure booking because he was just so wildly good last time. TheArches, Sat 23 Oct.

Oakenfold and Jules Paul Oakenfold and Judge Jules together with the Tunnel residents celebrate nine years of Tunnelling. It's a Sunday, it's not a Bank Holiday so it's time to take Monday off. The Tunnel, Sun 37 Oct.
