I Groove Diggaz Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 10pm—3am. £5. Back at the Jazz Joint again after a (mini) world tour, the Groove Diggaz ladle out their heavyweight soul-funk fortnightly. Fronted by soul-man Tony King and featuring the talents of Martin Kershaw on sax, they’re sure to funk-up the proceedings. DJ ‘Saf Sap’ (we don’t make these up but we suspect someone else does) minds the decks.

I Big Beat Bongo Club, 14 New Street, 558 7604. 10.30pm—3am. £7 (£6). A serious dose of the funk for the launch of Big Beat at the Bongo Club as Reuben Wilson, who was behind such hits as ‘Got To Get Your Own’, makes a return visit. Turntable action comes, as always, from the Thelonious duo of Simon and Stuart.

(Midnight Blue Band) and his six-piece create a distinct Latino feel to their groove, soul and funk selection. And, in the current Jazz Joint tradition, the line- up also features stars from the sphere of pop stand up Paul Mills (Average White Band) takes care of the drums. Andy B mixes up a suitable brew on the decks.
