It’s atomic, baby down at E2K with the likes of Simon Foy (Inside Out), Michael Kilkie, Zammo and Stuart Duncan mixing up a Euro house storm. Make sure that you head downstairs to the Uber Disko Saloon. Attracting a busy and well dressed (read super smooth) crowd, this is one of Edinburgh’s nicer nights out.

I Intergalactic at Holyrood House. 9pm—3am. £5 (£3). 11 Mar. Fortnightly. Indie night recently moved from Potterrow to this more intimate student venue, featuring an eclectic playlist including Belle & Sebastian, Beastie Boys and Blur. I The Jazz Joint at The Jazz Joint. 10pm-3am. £5-£7. Weekly. Easin the most popular night down at the Joint, 4 Mar is NuSpirit (see separate listing) and 11 Mar see Swirler drop by for some live funk with resident DJ Andy B.

I Joy at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am. £10 (£7). 4 Mar. Monthly. Still creating a mad atmosphere, Alan & Maggie do the techno and house thing in the main room, while Trendy Wendy and Sally Findlay lay on the disco, cheesy house and what not through the back. Attracting a gay/mixed crowd and runs pretty much at capacity, non-members should head down as early as possible to get in.

I Jungle Magic at the Liquid Room. 10.30pm—3am. £10. 11 Mar. Monthly. After a stint at the Potterrow, Jungle Magic is back at an even better venue, and promoter/DJ Kid’s got some serious talent booked. Tonight, to kick things off, the stunning DJ Rap guests. Always a little on the outside of the whole drum & bass clique, she has nonetheless rocked crowds around the world and even branched out into a pop career. She joins Kid and resident Tania Swift.

I LTJ Bukem at Potterrow. 9pm—3am. £tbc. 4 Mar only. The Logical Progression tour come back for a night of intelligent drum & bass and jazzy down-tempo stuff courtesy of Mr Buken, Blame, MC Conrad, MC DRS and Rantoul.

I Last Night A DJ Stole My Wife at P0 Na Na. llpm-3am. £3. Weekly. DJ 4th Varmint, keeping it real with the old skool to nu skool choppy changey thing.

I The Lizzard Lounge at La Belle Angele. 10pm—3am. £7 (£6). 11 Mar. Fortnightly. After moving venues to La Belle, the Lounge celebrate their third birthday. That’s three years of injecting a huge amount of cool to the capital with quality hip hop, Latin, jazz and funk fusion via some outstanding bands and DJs. They’ve invited Carlos Pena, AJ Black’anized and Nubia the dancehall queen to join residents Eh?Wun! and Joseph Malik.

I The Mambo Club at The Cavendish. 10pm—3am. £5 (£4). Weekly. World music with Sir Ossie playing the full spectrum of African, soca, Latin, salsa, reggae and ragga sounds.

I Messenger Sound System at The Bongo Club. 10pm—3am. £6. 4 Mar. Fortnightly. The UK Players guest at this most loved reggae club. Their hard stepping dub style is very popular indeed, and they’ll no doubt make a big impression at Messen er.

I Mingin at Studio 24, upstairs only. 10.30pm—3am. £5. 11 Mar. Fortnightly. Alan Joy has wound down Filth and turned Mingin’ fortnightly. Expect an intense and intimate affair, with dark and dirty trance the mainstay from Alan and Brian Dempster. Highly recommended.

I The Mission at Studio 24. 11pm-3am. £5 (£4). 4 Mar. Fortnightly. This is one of Scotland’s biggest alternative clubs with three floors of rock, goth and indie/dance which should suit just about everyone’s tastes.

I Noa at Noa. 10pm—3am. Free entry before midnight; £6 after. Weekly. Jon Flowers, Martin Valentine and Craig Phillips mix up US house and garage.

I NuSpirit at The Jazz Joint. 10pm-3am. £7. 4 Mar. Monthly. An excellent session of ‘mixed styles and tempos, universal sounds from a soul jazz centrepoint’ with a super important guest tonight. Residents Scott Rapson, Bob Cairns and Mikey Stirton will no doubt be very excited by the first ever live appearance of Neon Phusion, performing tracks from their debut LP Future Air: ’t The Same As It Used To Be. Make sure you check this one out.

I Scratch at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm—3am. £6 (£5). 11 Mar. Fortnightly. The residents fly out in real style this fortnight, expect Lyley, Richie Rufftone, Gino and Extra with the old and new styles.

I Shebang at Wilkie House. 11pm—3am. £10 (£8). 11 Mar. Monthly. Wah-hey, it’s their first birthday! Gail Sellars and all her pals will be throwing around balloons and streamers as their all-time favourite guest DJ Angel comes back for the party. A great night of uplifting house through to progressive trance with the laydees at the helm. As it should be. See preview.

I Substantial at E2K (formerly Eden). 11pm—3am. £10. 11 Mar. Monthly. Happily cemented as one of the essential nights out in Edinburgh, Substantial bring to town Jazzy M (MOS) for some mighty fine garage and house. He’ll be joining residents Craig Smith and Mikey Stirton. I Teaseage at The Citrus. 11pm-3am. £4. Weekly. Indie, with a touch of dance and funk, played to a packed and sweaty crowd.

I Tribal Funktion at The Venue. 11pm-3am. £7 (£5). 11 Mar. Fortnightly. In true Tribal style, the guest tonight is someone that you might not have heard about but once you experience them, you’ll be so pleased that you ‘discovered’ them. Enter Chris Duckenfteld, one of the UK’s most under-rated DJs and a part of swag, who will also be playing live. A great night of Chicago house, funky loops and filtered disco. Some insider knowledge for you - when the Tribal lot rate someone, make a point of checking them out. So we’ll see you there.

I Icons at Club Mercado. 11pm—4am. £4 (£3). 5 Mar. Monthly. A very exciting night for Icons as they host one of the Mr Gay UK 2000 heats. Ten of the capital’s sexiest men (let’s hope) will line up for your scrutiny. They will join the Icons dancers for some pretty saucy dancing. As always, there’s free transport from Planet Out. Weekly. 5 Mar marks the Queer Sunday 705 celebration night, expect this cheesy and tongue in cheek commerical club to go all retro on yo’ ass, dig? There’s be pop PAS, a fashion show from Joey D, and all the usual froliks. 12 Mar and they do it all again with a gasp - 805 retro night. A little close to the bone for some of us, actually.
