National Museums of Scotland Applications are invited from two highly motivated, enthusiastic and efficient people to join NMS's busy Department of Public Affairs. These fixed term posts are based at the Royal Museum, Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

This full time post is offered initially on a fixed term basis to 30 November 2001. The salary range is between £9,548 and £15,588. Salary on appointment will be between £9,548 and £11,058 depending on qualifications and experience.

The Museum of Scotland's Discovery Centre is a hands-on activity zone, where visitors can find out about Scotland's past by investigating the evidence which survives today. The Centre forms the focus of educational provision for school pupils aged 5 to 14 visiting the Museum. A travelling element will extend this provision across Scotland. Facilitator/Interpreters facilitate a planned programme of discovery learning for schools, and ensure that visitors to the Discovery exhibitions are made to feel welcome and are looked after, helped with their investigations and encouraged to participate in the various activities on offer. They also assist visitors who wish to record their own memories in the 20th Century Gallery's Memory Bank.

You will be educated to at least Standard Grade, but a diploma or equivalent may be an advantage. You will have had some training or practical experience in working with children and/or the general public. A good team worker and well organised, you should be comfortable with IT. You will be an accomplished communicator and may have an interest in drama. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as you must be able to establish a rapport with a wide range of audiences.

This part time post, working 15 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day), is offered initially on a fixed term basis for a period of one year. The salary range is between £10,135 and £19,304. Salary on appointment will be between £10,135 and £12,427 (pro rata) depending on qualifications and experience.

The Cinema Co-ordinator will ensure the smooth running of all aspects of The Lumiere cinema, including: the administration of box office returns, invoices, general paperwork and visitor comments; coordinating and monitoring the monthly publicity schedule (listings, distribution, mailshots, website); researching and implementing cost effective opportunities for audience development; facilitating a flow of information to all involved in the project, including chairing a monthly meeting, producing minutes, and following up on action points; supporting the Cinema Director on programming ideas; and monitoring

project costs.

Educated to at least Higher Grade, you will be a self-starter with an enthusiasm for cinema, excellent project management and communication skills and creativity in marketing and audience development. You will be familiar with IT, including Word and Excel.
