Change of direction for Film Fest's music strand

Bjork, Belle And_ _ Sebastian and All‘ In

Four years after it was founded as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Mirrorball has proved its thesis: today's music promo directors are tomorrow’s top filmmakers. Witness Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. Look out for Sexy Beast (Jon Glazer) and Human Nature (Michel Gondry),

Remaining at the cutting edge, Mirrorball is domg something different this year. There will still be a showcase for new music promos (such as Roman Coppola’s 'Playground Love’ for Air), but the focus will shift to animation, films by stills photographers and lo-fi filmmaking.

o Mirrorball says the best pop promos of the last year have been produced by Shynola (UNKLE, Quannum Project, Grooverider). Shynola’s Richard Kenworthy and his associates are coming to Edinburgh to show us how. If you’re interested in attending their workshop contact Mirrorball explaining why at: marketing@edfilmfest.org.uk

0 Lighthouse, a New York and Paris-based collective that commissions leading fashion/art photographers to make short films, documentaries and pop promos, has programmed a selection for Edinburgh that includes work by David LaChapelle, Peter Lindberg and Stephane Sednaoui (pictured).

0 Lo-fi filmmaking is given prominence in Mirrorball’s collaboration with industry bible Shots magazine. The strand features work from Belle And Sebastian and includes panel discussions with directors, producers and commissioners.

0 Finally, there's a tribute to BJOrk which examines her collaboration

with favourite directors including Jonze, Gondry and Sednaoui.

Mirrorball runs at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 73—27 Aug. The new Mirrorball television series broadcasts from 5 Jul.
