Tina Turner plays Hampden Park, Fri 7 Jul.

preview for Annie Christian. Sputniks Down are arguably one of the best new bands around at the moment. Their fragile combination of bubbling electronics, smart bomb guitars and stuttering percussion is a sound to behold. Degrassi’s fuzzy guitar antics are pretty hot too, so you’re in for a treat all round.

I Cherryfire Ashes and Penny Hollow The Attic, Dyer’s Close, 71 Cowgate, 225 8382. 7.30pm. £4. Local band double bill at The Attic.

I Silver Pill, Cinnamon Skin, Indian Bone and Imperial Racing Club The Venue, 17-21 Calton Road, 557 3073. 8pm. £4. Silver Pill lead the way with their unique brand of molten punk-pop at this local band night.

I Dave Milligan Trio Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 9.30pm—3am. £4 (£3). Band on stage at 9.30pm. Pianist Milligan and his trio supply a melodic jazz selection. DJ Demus minds the decks.

I Tamala Motion Brannigans, Dundee Street, 228 5885. First band on 9pm. Free.
