I Rio at Ego. 10.30pm—3am. £7 (£5 for the fabulously dressed). 8 Jul. Monthly. A brand new night from the people who bring you Vegas. As you may have guessed. the emphasis is squarely on the Latin rhythms, with a hot ‘n’ sexy mix of salsa, mcrengue, disco and funk. Alternatively, relaxez-vous in the lpanema Lounge to a more mellow, jazzy mix. As always, there’ll be all sorts of extra Latin-themed goings-on, including complimentary Rio cocktails and gorgeous glamour hostesses.

I Saturday Night Live at The Venue. 11pm-3am. £6/£5 (possibly). 15 Jul. Monthly. A three-floored hip hop and funk fest as Scratch and Motherfunk combine their talents to bring you the best of both worlds. And a damn fine world it is too, with sexy funk to shake your booty to on the top floor and the best in hip hop beats downstairs. Tonight’s guest is Rahzel (who by all accounts deserves the title human beatbox those who’ve seen him live are still wondering how he can produce so may layers of sound with only one voice box), formerly of live hip hop crew The Roots, and he’ll be bringing rappers and DJs with him for a serious floorshow.

I Spectrum at Club Java. 10pm—2am. £5 (£4). 15 Jul. Fortnightly. Joseph Malik (Lizzard Lounge) is the man behind the decks at this gorgeous venue in sunny Leith, and we’re promised music across the spectrum (appropriately enough) from funk to reggae to Afro to drum & bass.

I Tribal Funktion at The Venue has now finished new monthly event Boombox starts on 29 Jul.

I Ultragroove at La Belle Angele. 10.30pm—2am. £10; £8 before midnight. 8 Jul. Monthly. Ultragroove goes from strength to strength, proving that proper house music hasn’t gone out of fashion. Tonight’s event sees Ashley Beedle return to dish out another helping of soulful garage grooves, alongside residents Colin Cook and stalwart face on the scene Gareth Sommerville.

A huge serving of glam goings-on and camped-up cabaret, with regular PAS, drag dancers and top cheesy choons to shake your stuff to. Three’s company on decks we’re told, with DJ Michelle (Poptastic), Fifi Trixabelle and Granty Pants doing what they do.
