NEW TECHNOLOGY Undergroundbeat.com

Virtual Clubbing? Yeah, been there, done that, and it was only Oakenfold via ISDN, making money without even leaving the house. For all the talk about how the internet is the bright and shiny future of everything, there’s little out there in the way of good club sites. Ignoring the vast potential of technology, most clubs seem happy to post listings once in a while, if they can be bothered, and offer the occasional bit of news.

However, salvation may be at hand, in the form of undergroundbeat.com, a new site set up by DJ (and former Sub Club manager) Jay Hay, which offers everything from details about forthcoming undergroundbeat club nights and the latest news on Sub Club events to downloadable DJ sets, record reviews and (within the next month) a dedicated web-based radio station.

'We're aiming to cover pretty much anything related to dance music,‘ says Hay of the site. 'As well as covering Subbie events, and everything related to that, we're going to be organising our own nights and, of course, running the radio station.’ With the radio element set to feature both established guests and the in-house DJ team of Hay, Glenn C., Jake Reid, Mr Peaches and Biotron (aka Guy), you're as likely to hear ear-shredding noise, filtered disco or beefed-up hip hop as you are to hear Sub-style house. With the involvement of The Sub Club, getting stellar guests for the planned undergroundbeat events isn't going to be a problem either. The site already carries recommendations from the likes of Ashley Beedle and Johnny Fiasco, who says that The Sub Club is ‘the holy grail of house clubs'. Meanwhile, Derrick May simply states: 'lt's one of the best clubs in the world.’ And you don't argue with the man who invented techno. (Leon McDermott)
