Pile the fruit upon your head for this cha cha cha carnival party hosted by the Latino cousins ofVegas, Senor Daddy Love, Milton Bananas, Tony D’Amore and Sam Miguel. Chicken juggling and limbo dancing are only two of the distinctly Brazilian traditions open to the ardent carnival enthusiast.

I Saturday Night Live at The Venue. 10.30pm—3am. £7 (£5). 9 Sep. Monthly. Scratch team up with Motherfunk to bring Edinburgh audiences a three floor frenzy of unstoppable hip hop and funk grooves. The guests this week are George T (Tribal, Boombox) and all the way from NYC, hip hop DJ Misbehaviour.

A godsend for Leithers too lazy to stagger into town, this converted church building is rapidly turning the tables by attracting a regular horde from the city centre. Not only do you get to enjoy a stylish bar and dancefloor, but the upstairs section can cater for every lounger’s needs, with copious quantities of couching and some cosy little booths for added intimacy. Music-wise this weekly treat sees Joseph Malik and Eh! Wun (9 Sep) rotating with Unkle Fawaz, Mr Todd (Higher Ground) and furry friends (16 Sep) on a fortnightly basis, with a range of quality tunes from hip hop and drum & bass to reggae R&B and mellow house.

Maintaining their tenacious grip on Edinburgh’s real deal house scene, Substantial tonight take a break from their guest list to highlight the enviable talents of resident Craig Smith. In demand nationwide for his production and remixing skills, Craig’s latest release "Try My Dub’ is attracting rave reviews so sampling the DJing delights of his legendary four hour sets is more than recommendable right now.
