The City of Edinburgh Council has recently spent in excess of £9 million refurbishing the Usher Hall. the City’s world renowned Classic Concert Hall.

The centrepiece of the Edinburgh lntemational Festival. the Edinburgh base of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and a regular venue for popular music. the Usher Hall will be spreading its wings in the future.

The Hall now has a promenade facility and the ability to house conferences. exhibitions and trade shows. It will be promoting its own Concert Series throughout the year.

We are looking for someone with the experience. enthusiasm and business sense to take the Usher Hall into the twenty first century.A Business Plan for the Hall has been adopted by the City of Edinburgh Council and it will be your responsibility to deliver on its artistic. social and business objectives. The Hall will operate as a Business Unit within the Recreation Department of the City Council.

Supported by a strong Management Team and the resources of the City Council. you will ensure that the Usher Hall provides a welcoming environment for all its users. from International Artists to local schoolchildren. You will have a strong commitment to audience development and to encouraging life long learning. You will have the knowledge and ability to oversee the creation of the Usher Hall Concert Series. You must also be able to manage a diverse staff group and encourage enthusiasm and team working towards a common goal.

Your knowledge and understanding of the music business will come from your academic background and your extensive experience in a senior position in a large venue. You will have a track record of obtaining external funding. of programming events and attracting new business and new audiences.

Front of House Manager -

We are now looking to fill this key post to help the Hall achieve its potential.

As a member of the Usher Hall’s Management Team. you will manage all steward. attendant. cleaning. caretaking. bars and sales staff and all front of house activities in a manner that maintains and develops the Usher Hall as a well organised. comfortable and welcoming environment that customers want to experience again.

You will need to have a degree level qualification or equivalent experience and training along with substantial knowledge of the operational arrangements of a large concert hall. including experience at a senior level. This includes meeting members of the public, promoters. users and sponsors to discuss their needs. resolve differences and develop/implement continuous improvement. You will need to be able to foster team spirit in the front of house workforce and contribute as a team player.

You also need to have knowledge and understanding of budgetary and related controls as applied to front of house activities.
