USHER HALL

The City of Edinburgh Council has recently spent in excess of £9 million refurbishing the Usher Hall. the City‘s world renowned Classic Concert Hall.

The centrepiece of the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh base of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and a regular venue for popular music. the Usher Hall will be spreading its wings in the future.

The Hall now has a promenade facility and the ability to house conferences, exhibitions and trade shows. It also will be promoting its own Series of concerts.

We are looking for key operational staff to help the Hall to fulfil its potential. All the postholders will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Hall.

Artistic and Education

Programmer - Ref R100! I05 (503 £2609I - £28I04, Pay Award Pending)

A key member of the Usher Hall Management Team, you will co-ordinate and negotiate the Hall‘s classical promotions. liaise with orchestras that use the Hall regularly and with the Edinburgh International Festival on their programmes and the development of associated education programmes. You will also devise and manage an ongoing music education programme for all ages and abilities.

You will need an appropriate degree in music or related arts areas, along with detailed knowledge and understanding of the classical repertoire and music education. This should be supplemented by experience of working in an appropriate arts venue, with an orchestra, or with a publisher or broadcaster. You also need to be familiar with the education sector in Scotland and with the life long learning agenda.

Marketing Manager - Ref R100] l06 (502 (24009 - acorn, Pay Award Pending)

A member of the Usher Hall‘s Management Team. you will manage activities associated with marketing the programme of events, pursuing sponsorship opportunities for events and the Hall itself and developing and controlling the effectiveness of the Box Office Service.

With a post-graduate qualification in Marketing. or equivalent. you need to have experience of the marketing and sponsorship activities associated with a busy concert hall or other appropriate arts venue.

You will be responsible, with your colleague, for supervising the day to day front of house operations of the Usher Hall. including staff supervision and being on duty during events. A qualification in hospitality services, or equivalent experience, is desirable. preferany with knowledge of the workings of a large concert hall. Experience of meeting the expectations of users of a venue - from concertgoers to major sponsors - is required.

Bars Manager - Ref Rl00I I I0 (AP2 £I3650 - am I, Pay Award Pending)

Of great importance to the Hall‘s users and to its financial success, you will manage the Hall‘s range of bars and other related services in accordance with the requirements of the Business Plan.

You will have a formal qualification in catering or equivalent and experience in a management capacity in the bars. or of catering, in a high quality venue.

Technical Assistants -

You will support the Chief Technician on all technical matters required to ensure the Hall maintains and improves its international status. You will assist in the operation of all backstage areas and of technical equipment to meet the needs of promoters. performers and other users. We will need a mixture of skills in the team. including stage electricians and carpenters, but all staff will work together on events. You should have a technical qualification and significant experience of working in a theatre/concert hall environment.
