The best clubs in Glasgow this fortnight

Anti-Bar Having taken time out recently from DJing in Glasgow to present interactive Channel 4 show Streams, DJ Mingo-go (above) gets back into the swing of things with Anti-Bar. The tunes are quiet, there’s room to move, and (despite the fact that downstairs at the Note is the size of a small bean) you can even sit down and have a conversation. 13th Note Cafe, Sat 4 Nov.

Funk Room A rare treat is in store at the Funk Room this month, in the form of rapper, author and general all-round political activist and cultural icon Gil Scott-Heron playing a live set. Random Gil Scott-Heron fact you can quote to impress your mates: his dad used to play for Celtic, you know. The Arches, Sat 71 Nov.

Havana Esperito In the rarefied surroundings of Canvas, where the table service and the lack of dedicated dancefloor make for a more relaxed club, DJ Jazz, the man who pioneered Salsa in Glasgow and still the best proponent of it, plays his patented blend of Cuban magic. One for the sophisticates out there. Canvas, Sat 4 Nov.

lli Karate Neil McMillan and Andrew Divine have just celebrated four years of breaks, beats and wiggy-assed funk (not to mention four years of highly amusing newsletters). They kick off their fifth year in fine style, with genius Brooklyn rapper Jeru Tha Damaja and scratchmeister DJ Pogo whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Glasgow School of Art, Thu 2 Nov.

Sunday Social Sundays are the new Saturdays, or so they say, but when was the last time you spent Saturday lounging about'in a converted railway arch sipping beer, eating crépes, sifting through the Sunday papers and listening to abstract jazz funk house beats from the Southern hemisphere? Well exactly. The Arches, Sun 5th Nov.

Test Test roll out the barrel for another night of heavy duty techno, and guests this time round include sometime Super_Collider man Christian Vogel and Tresor's Eva Caza, so watch out for the low-flying beats. Glasgow School of Art, Fri 3 Nov.

2-16 Nov 2000 THE US”?
