I Friday Fiesta at Q Bar. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Celebrate the weekend’s arrival with alcohol.

I Friday Frenzy at Ego. 5—10pm. Free. Weekly. A spanky new post-work/pre- club experience brought to you by resident DJs from Vegas and Disco Inferno. Drinks are all £1 for the full five hours so chances are it’s gonna get

mess .

I 4-Play at Club Mercado. 4—10pm. Free. Weekly. Serving you hard working, hard partying types with a mind-melting mix of music (courtesy of kitsch queen Trendy Wendy) and drinks promos. I Made In Iguana at Iguana. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Local hero Joseph Malik (Compost Records) dazzles the crowds with his blindin’ range of funky tunes, from hip ho to house to Latin and jazz. I Oxygen at Oxygen. 6pm—1am. Free. Weekly. This popular pre-club has now secured a fantasy DJ dream team, featuring Colin Cook (Ultragroove), Stuart Duncan (Atomic Baby), George T (Boombox), Kris Keegan (Archaos) and Martin Valentine (Taste) on rotation. Please note the early start.

I Big Beat at La Belle Angele. 10.30pm—3am. £6 (£5); members £3 before 11.30pm. 5 Jan. Monthly. After a long run of great guests, residents Simon Hodge, Stuart Bennett and DJ Tinku take up the opportunity of working the dancefloor all night long. Expect all the choicest cuts from the realms of funk, nu-jazz and soul and if it’s guests you’re after, Russ Dewbury (Jazz Rooms, Brighton) drops by next month.

I Club Latino at The Bongo Club. 10pm—3am. £7 (£6). 19 Jan. Monthly. Baby it may be cold outside but Latin maestro Simon Hodge has got the Capoiera Dancers working up quite a sweat at this feisty night of salsa pleasure.

I Divine Divas at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm-late. £6 (£4). 19 Jan. Monthly. Latino ladies only because tonight it’s ‘Viva Divas La Noche Latina’. I Progression at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am. £8 (£6). 19 Jan. Monthly. Chris Cargo (Choo Choo Records) joins Steven McCreery and Alan Dobson in the progressive main room, while Derek Martin and Gav Grant get all deep and funky through the back.

Unlike many nights where the next tune is a foregone conclusion, the Merry Pranksters, Brainstorm and Penny Pornstar keep us right up on our toes and never fail to tantalise and titillate with their random selection of post-cool electroid disco breaks and porn. I Rub Fruit at Ego has now finished. I Ru Kuts at The Venue (top floor). £3. 12 Jan. Monthly. New residency for this drum & bass night that makes a marked departure from the norm with live MCs plus the opportunity to surf the net and have your bizarro findings projected onto big screens.

I Salsa Con Sabor at Gaia. 10pm—3am. Free before midnight; £4 after. Weekly. Dance classes from 8pm with Nano teaching salsa and merengue and then hot Latino DJ action from Paulito, lending a fiesty mix of salsa swing, merengue house and Latino pop to the proceedings. I Salsa Viva at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm—3am. Free before midnight; £5 after. 5 Jan. Monthly. Scorching hot Latin rhythms from the masterful DJ Jorge. Apparently the urge to dance is irresistible so mind you wear sensible shoes.

I Sublime at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am (doors close at 1am). Free to members; £8 non-members. 12 Jan. Fortnightly. Fighting frisky, the leading trance and techno night starts the new year in riotous residents mode. ldge takes point, playing a three hour set and he’s covered by Kev Wright in the main room with Gary Mac and Flix doing breaks duties in the back.

Joy After years at Wilkie House, Maggie & Alan embark on the first of three dates at the ultra glam Ego before moving to a permanent residency at The Venue. Rest assured that the previously poor soundsystem here has been rigged to handle that hard house. Ego, Sat 6Jan.

Mondo Mondo make a peachy start to the new year with special guest Mark Gray from Tidy Trax. A relative newcomer to the scene, Gray has nonetheless already made a tidy impact with his residency at Sundissential and the Mondo team have shown they're right on the money yet again by giving him his Scottish debut. Oxygen The gutsy glam palace welcomes special guest DJ Dave Randall (Nukulez) for the first progressive to hard house session of this glorious new year. Studio 24, Sat 73 Jan.

The Project If your new year’s resolution was to get out more and/or to try new and exciting things then this will deftly kill two birds with one stone. It's a fluid gush of live acts, 015 and MCs and it comes from those highly respected soul, R&B and hip hop types Eh? Wunl, Unkle Fawaz and AJ. The Bongo Club, Sat 73 Jan.
