I BIok at PopRokit. 9pm-lam. Free. Weekly. A new regular venture courtesy of Robin Styler (Solefusion), Bootsy (Substance/Groove Theory) and Gregor (Douche Ma Touche), where rare groove, funk, disco and hip hop will be the order of the day.

I Chaos Cubano at Baracoa. 10pm—1am. Free. Weekly. DJ Mikayel hosts a night of funk, hip hop and salsa. I Cuba Norte at Cuba Norte. 10pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Still supplying the broadest musical spectrum for Latin lovers and still pivotal to the whole Latin scene.

I Disco Cubism at The Carwash. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Ali Campbell shows he ain’t no square when he goes disco, deep house crazy for the night.

I Friday Fiesta at Q Bar. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Celebrate the weekend’s arrival with alcohol.

I Friday Frenzy at Ego. 5—10pm. Free. Weekly. A spanky new post-work/pre- club experience brought to you by resident DJs from Vegas and Disco Inferno. Drinks are all £1 for the full five hours so chances are it’s gonna get

mess .

I 4-Play at Club Mercado. 4—10pm. Free. Weekly. Serving you hard working, hard partying types with a mind-melting mix of music (courtesy of kitsch queen Trendy Wendy) and drinks promos. Parties of twenty or more who book through the venue’s guest list system have the chance to win £150 in a cashback draw.

I Groove On at Rush. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. DJ Stewart with a sweet rare groove, soul and funk selection.

I Human Be-In at The Human Be-ln. 9pm—lam. Free. Weekly. Oli entertains with jazz, funk and hip hop.

I Immersed In Music at Pivo. 9pm-1am. Free. Weekly. Martin Valentine (5 Jan) and Neil Ferris (12 Jan) help us get jiggy to the sounds of the house and garage underground.

I Made In Iguana at Iguana. 9pm—1am. Free. Weekly. Local hero Joseph Malik (Compost Records) dazzles the crowds with his blindin’ range of funky tunes, from hip ho to house to Latin and jazz. I Progression at Bar Union. 9pm—lam. Free. 19 Jan. Monthly. Barry Fell does the warm up for the main event at Wilkie House, playing some deep to progressive house.

I Oxygen at Oxygen. 6pm—1am. Free. Weekly. This popular pre-club has now secured a fantasy DJ dream team, featuring Colin Cook (Ultragroove), Stuart Duncan (Atomic Baby), George T (Boombox), Kris Keegan (Archaos) and Martin Valentine (Taste) on rotation. Please note the early start.

I Rebel Waltz at City Cafe 2. 9pm—lam. Free. 12 Jan. Fortnightly. With any luck, Murray ‘Globetrotting’ Richardson is back in town by now and able to play some deep house grooves in between travel anecdotes.

popular and highly central hotspot.


I Arakatacal at The Bongo Club. 11pm-3am. £5. 5 Jan. Monthly. DJs Jaffer (Senegal) and Zuppa Inglese (Bogota) host a fiery mix of Salsa, African, Latin and Caribbean dance.

I Big Beat at La Belle Angele. 10.30pm—3am. £6 (£5); members £3 before 11.30pm. 5 Jan. Monthly. After a long run of great guests, residents Simon Hodge, Stuart Bennett and DJ Tinku take up the opportunity of working the dancefloor all night long. Expect all the choicest cuts from the realms of funk, nu-jazz and soul and if it’s guests you’re after, Russ Dewbury (Jazz Rooms, Brighton) drops by next month.

I C.C. Blooms at C.C. Blooms. 10.30pm—3am (bar from 6pm). Free. Weekly. DJ Ally does the decks duty at this gay night with her inimitable selection of high camp and disco classics, moving on to pumped-up house and dance as the evening progresses.

I Club Latino at The Bongo Club. 10pm—3am. £7 (£6). 19 Jan. Monthly. Baby it may be cold outside but Latin maestro Simon Hodge has got the Capoiera Dancers working up quite a sweat at this feisty night of salsa pleasure.

I Conception at Holyrood Union. 9pm—3am. £2 (£1). 19 Jan. Monthly. Inexpensive goth and rock night for the studes.

I Divine Divas at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm-late. £6 (£4). 19 Jan. Monthly. Latino ladies only because tonight it’s ‘Viva Divas La Noche Latina’. So don your sombreros and your flamenco skirts for an unbridled fiesta and arrive early for a free beginners class in salsa with DJ Tanty. I Dr No's at The Bongo Club. Monthly. Next date 26 Jan.

I Evol at The Liquid Room. 10.30pm—3am. £4. Weekly. Edinburgh’s longest running indie night is a fighting force to be reckoned with. These days, expect a heady mix of the best alternative and crossover tunes, new and old.

Residents Neil T (Apex) and Nomad take care of business on the main floor with a very special guest, while Kam The Beard plays ska, big beat and soul upstairs.

I The Mambo Club at The Cavendish. 10pm—3am. £4 before midnight; £5 after. Weekly. Still going strong after so many years, Sir Ossie provides the reggae, ragga, soul, funk, rap, hip hop and R&B delights.

Matt Gray and Martin Campbell swing by to showcase their deep house platters (5 Jan), and the following week (12 Jan) Domenic shuffles back to tweak the knobs of the ferocious soundsystem. I Planet Earth at The Citrus Club. 10.30pm—3am. £4. Weekly. The varied musical delights of the 705 and 805, with a particular stress laid on that madcap magic known as disco. No smoking at the bar please.

I Progression at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am. £8 (£6). 19 Jan. Monthly. Chris Cargo (Choo Choo Records) joins Steven McCreery and Alan Dobson in the progressive main room, while Derek Martin and Gav Grant get all deep and funky through the back.

I Queer Friday at Ego has now finished.

I Radio Babylon at La Belle Angele. 10.30pm—3am. £5. 12 Jan. Monthly. Unlike many nights where the next tune is a foregone conclusion, the Merry Pranksters, Brainstorm and Penny Pornstar keep us right up on our toes and never fail to tantalise and titillate with their random selection of post-cool electroid disco breaks and porn. I Roadblock at P0 Na Na. 11pm—3am. £3. Weekly. Nicci F stops the traffic in bad music when she digs up the best in funk, disco, house and block rockin’ beats.

I Rub Fruit at Ego has now finished. I Ru Kuts at The Venue (top floor). £3. 12 Jan. Monthly. New residency for this drum & bass night that makes a marked departure from the norm with live MCs plus the opportunity to surf the net and have your bizarro findings projected onto big screens.

I Salsa Con Sabor at Gaia. 10pm—3am. Free before midnight; £4 after. Weekly. Dance classes from 8pm with Nano teaching salsa and merengue and then hot Latino DJ action from Paulito, lending a fiesty mix of salsa swing, merengue house and Latino pop to the proceedings. I Salsa Viva at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm—3am. Free before midnight; £5 after. 5 Jan. Monthly. Scorching hot Latin rhythms from the masterful DJ Jorge. Apparently the urge to dance is irresistible so mind you wear sensible shoes.

I Sublime at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am (doors close at 1am). Free to members; £8 non-members. 12 Jan. Fortnightly. Fighting frisky, the leading trance and techno night starts the new year in riotous residents mode. ldge takes point, playing a three hour set and he’s covered by Kev Wright in the main room with Gary Mac and Flix doing breaks duties in the back.

I Subtle Logic at Studio 24 has now finished.

Hell On Earth Soft, stadium, glam or cock - whichever way you like your rock there’s bound to something to make you shake it like a wild thing at this all-new club experience. And as Kiss would say ’For those about to rock, we salute you'. Wilkie House, Sat 13 Jan.

Joy After years at Wilkie House, Maggie & Alan embark on the first of three dates at the ultra glam Ego before moving to a permanent residency at The Venue. Rest assured that the previously poor soundsystem here has been rigged to handle that hard house. Ego, Sat 6Jan.

Mondo Mondo make a peachy start to the new year with special guest Mark Gray from Tidy Trax. A relative newcomer to the scene, Gray has nonetheless already made a tidy impact with his residency at Sundissential and the Mondo team have shown they're right on the money yet again by giving him his Scottish debut. Oxygen The gutsy glam palace welcomes special guest DJ Dave Randall (Nukulez) for the first progressive to hard house session of this glorious new year. Studio 24, Sat 73 Jan.

The Project If your new year’s resolution was to get out more and/or to try new and exciting things then this will deftly kill two birds with one stone. It's a fluid gush of live acts, 015 and MCs and it comes from those highly respected soul, R&B and hip hop types Eh? Wunl, Unkle Fawaz and AJ. The Bongo Club, Sat 73 Jan.

Radio Babylon You’ll find an evening spent with the charming Merry Pranksters, the debauched Penny Pornstar and the wildly innovative and entertaining Brainstorm is never an evening wasted. La Bel/e Ange/e, Fri 72 Ian.
