New Talent heats at the Angel Eye, Wed 20 Dec.

CJ, steward at the Winter Wonderland, resident DJ at Subtle Logic.

I was here as part of the panel, to pick between the four new DJs playing tonight in the Eye On Talent competition.

- Of the mixing, the fourth DJ, Ross Hutchison, certainly pulled out the best mixes and was consistent all the way through his set, especially ending the records. In terms of records played, I think the first guy Mark Gaudie had the most impressive records and he really tried to make the set progress and form a unit. Ross had the superior mixing though and that’s why he won - he actually mixed the beginning, middle and the end of the tracks together and kept it all fluid.

As far as showcasing new talent goes, you don’t really get a very high turn-out for these kinds of events but as far as the indivndual 015 are concerned, winning a competition like this will be an accolade. They can put it down on their flyers and all their promotional material and it really is a foot in the door. So I think it’s quite important for the winner it’s a great motivation and something that will spur them on to practising and promoting themselves a lot more.
