CLUBS listings Phactfile

Ever wondered what happened to the hardcore freaks that ran Apex? James Smart puts his ear to the ground and sniffs out the ’phacts’ that surround the mysterious disappearance and subsequent re- emergence of Phil Zero and Pearsall with their new night Rampage.

Rampage? Rarrr! Fetch the battleaxe, Sven. I haven't felt this excited since we pillaged the Forth Estuary with

Eric and the boys back in AD 461. Stop

being self-indulgent, granddad. You know damn well this is the clubbing section. We’re talking about the new hard house, trance, acid and techno night kicking off at the Wee Red Bar on 9 February, hosted by Pearsall and Phil Zero (pictured).

Didn't they used to run the pounding

carnival that was Apex? Yeah.

Unfortunately the Studio 24 night had to call it a day when half of its crew headed down to London. Those left behind in Auld Reekie pursued separate

clubbing interests, Neil T started Lost at

Studio 24, while Al Space is currently involved with Loop at the Wee Red Bar. Pearsall meanwhile, spent his days tinkering with the knobs at student

station Fresh Air FM and Phil, aside from

a brief DJing trip to Chicago, bided his time until Pearsall made talk of starting another night.

Pardon me for saying, but aren‘t there

quite a few hard house nights round town already? There are indeed, but this one's different. 'A lot of them are

going for a glam crowd with quite fluffy

house, but we're here for people who want to have fun,‘ Phil explains. ’Posh folk, students, whatever. It’s gonna be

driving, but uplifting as well. Some clubs play really repetitive stuff, which doesn’t

get your emotions going. We're gonna build and build and then just go for it.’

And who's going to be helping these

young things go mental? Well, the club

is mainly residents-driven, but for the launch they've got DJ Skelp, a hard

house DJ who likes his acid (no, not that

kind). He plays at Triple Bass in Aberdeen and HQ in Amsterdam. Good for him. Any other reasons I should be dusting down my dancing shoes? If you turn up with a flyer you’ll get free membership. Turn up with

those dancing shoes, and you might just

have a rampaging good time. Rampage, The Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh, Fri 9 Feb. For more info peruse wwwsonicrampage. net
