impressive, moving from slow, floating. ethereal themes like Peacocks “Voice from the Past' or Crispell's evocative ‘Silence (for P.)' through to scurrying, uptempo workouts like Motian's 'Morpion'. The music may be a little too abstract for those with more mainstream jazz leanings. but the open- minded will find the clarity and invention of their musical thought processes matched by the empathy of their group interaction. f (1991), and the less highly charged. folk-
support during the sectarianism controversy which MacMiIIan's Edinburgh Festival lecture stirred up. This is a powerful performance of that often spare but always emotive work. and the disc also includes equally compelling accounts of his earlier Sinfon/etta

wobbly piano tinkles and § squelching mini moogs. L Top the whole melange
off with a liberal sprinkling of TV show samples, helium vocals snatches. fair ground ambience. ocean liner horns and bits nicked from operas.
