The award-winning nightclubbing space that is Mas welcomes Jo Mills to its disc jockey box. Jack Mottram tells you all about her using the time-honoured question and answer format beloved of Socrates.

Who in blue blazes is Jo Mills? International jet-setting lady disc Jockey who. because she doesn't play hard house. isn't called Lisa. What does she play then, indie rock? Erm no. you're thinking of Jo Whiley for some reason. Mills is more of a house type. American house. to be specific. with an ernphasrs on smooth transitions between the chunky business and muckier' grooveled stuff. Think percussive but soulful, with a reasonable dose of sweet vocal action.

Is she, like, famous? Not as famous as she Will be by the end of the year. I imagine. Al the mo' she's chiefly known for various regular slots on the White Isle. if people are still calling lbi/a that. Narner last year's stints at the Balearic branch of Cream and her long-standing residency for Circa Loco at DC 1 0. What, she DJs on an aeroplane? Don't be facetious. as you well know DClt) is a famous nightclub. Since last summer. she's been engaged in an attempt to take over the world. touring relentlessly. peaking with a slot as the first ever female DJ to play at Danny Tenaglia's Be Yourself night at Vinyl in New York. having left her mark on Moscow. Johannesburg and Tel Aviv. to name but a few. Crikey. She gets about, what about poor old Blighty, when do we get the chance to thrill to her highly-regarded, deeply funky sets? Mills is starting a residency at Pacha's new London night in June. and has been popping into Leeds's \rvonderful Back to Basics and London's considerably less wonderful Ministry of SOund. Somewhere in Scotland would be handy. Duh. Why on earth would we be talking about her if she wasn't playing in Scotland. And didn't you read the introduction? I don‘t know why I bother. sometimes. She. Is. Playing. At. Mas.

There’s no need to be rude. I rather think there is.
