FASHION GLASGOW SKATEWEAR

Where to find your essential skate gear

When Concrete Skates ceased trading some time ago. it appeared that Glasgow's Skaterati might have to look elsewhere fOr their baggy troos and gutties. However. it seems that there were already a number of pretenders to the throne waiting in line for their chance to SGI/G the boardwear crown.

Concrete's partner in crime was always the liberskate shop. Dr Jives (1 13 Candleriggs. 5:32 54:31 I. Jives is undoubtedly the most famous of all Glasgow's skate shops and deserves to be. for many reasons. Boasting a star-studded cast of clientele (including Sharleen Spiteri and Robert Carlyle to name but a couple), which the prices tend to reflect. Dr Jives is Without question the shop for that essential skate label outfit.

Just along the road from Dr Jives is Tribal Junki (67 Candleriggs. 552 7078). the same kind of thing as Jives but With a bIt of a tWIst. Both have their unique selling pOints. the biggest of Tribal Junk/"s being the fact that it's

Just that little bit cheaper than its rival while stocking Similar products.

A fairly recent addition to the Glasgow skate shop scene is BoardWIse I1 1 Royal Exchange Square. 248 1 179: 1 146 Argyle Street. 334 5559). Like the late Concrete. BoardWIse actually sells skateboards. a feature SurprISingly absent from many of its counterparts. The best thing about BoardWIse. though. is that it often has Quite a lot of sale stock on show. making it a good bit cheaper than you'd assume it's gomg to be.

The high street representative of skate culture in Glasgow has to be another recent addition. Cult Clothing (63—67 Queen Street. 226 6822). Cu/t is almost suspicioust cheap. offering well known labels at high street prices. but given the scale of their operation this is hardly surprising. Always good for a bargain. though.
