it's all change down Queen Street these days. Hot on the heels of the new-look Cube, Vault is set to open across the road offering a back-to-basics approach to, quite literally, underground clubbing. Jack Mottram checks he’s on his own guest list.

Back to basics? As in the ill-fated Tory election slogan of yesteryear? No. not as in that. you div. As in getting lost looking for mildly shady alleyways with dimly lit nightclub entrances. getting down and dirty on a basement dancefloor. thrilling to the illicit pulse of serious dance music. All that good stuff you don't get at a mega-club serving Aftershocks three-for-a-pound to drunk teens.

Ooh, fab. Where’s this all happening? It's happening at Vault. a brand new venue that has taken over the club space that formerly constituted the two back rooms of Yang. The new entrance is down that wee alley off Queen Street that the aforementioned drunk teens use as a urinal/temporary love nest after they've been chucked out of a mega-club for drinking too many of the aforementioned Attershocks.

So what’s on then? Good of you to ask. that irrelevant drunk teens riff was getting a bit out of hand. Thursday nights feature lan & Stevie spinning what they call “fucked-up pop' at Homework. What they mean by this is something of a mystery. Friday belongs to the esteemed 23rd Precinct crew. with Steven McCreery joined by Billy Kiltie. Billy Woods and Amanda Price.

i prefer going out on Saturday. Bully for you. If you'd let me finish... on Saturday nights. lan & Stevie are back once again like renegade masters. this time with a box full of techno and electro past and present. Finally. Sundays are set to thrill to the sounds of the Soulsa crew. namely Andy Unger and Shae D. with their trademark fusion of decent disco. proper garage and sweet house music.

That’s a pretty good run of nights. Anything else i should know? Well. the launch of the Soulsa Sunday-nighter is on 24 Jun. with a special guest in the form of the Sub's Domenic Capello (pictured). Should be a good 'un.

I See club listings for details of all nights at Vault.
