BIRTHDAY BASH TASTE The Honeycomb, Edinburgh. Sun 1 Jul.

listings Clubs

Taste residents Mark Price and Brian Fisher

As sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, a capacity crowd will be getting minced of a Sunday at Clubland institution Taste. For seven years now, the club’s residents Fisher & Price have been playing their incomparable blend of garage and house to a very friendly mixed crowd, some of whom surprisingly still have jobs

to go to on a Monday.

‘Most of the people must be unemployed,’ jokes Brian Fisher, one half of the dynamic duo. ‘A lot of them make sure they take the Monday off and I know a few people who have started their own businesses up and they’re obviously shut for trade on that day. Most people seem to cope though, although there have been quite a few over the years come up and say they’ve lost their job. I don’t know if that’s a good thing. It’s not something we

encourage anyway.’

Unemployed or otherwise, the members list at Taste now runs to nearly 4000 devotees. Despite the fact that some of these members have long since knocked it on the head to either settle down, have children or re- condition their short-term memory skills, the club still finds itself unable to accommodate huge numbers every

week.

Those lucky enough to get past the doors for the massive birthday celebrations this fortnight certainly won’t be disappointed. Featuring guest spots from new quarterly resident Jon Pleased, dirty house vixen Jo Mills and Miss Moneypenny’s honcho Jim ‘Shaft’ Ryan, it’s destined to be a full house; the doors will be opening at the earlier time of 10pm to accommodate the impressive line-up.

As with all the Taste birthday parties, it’s fancy dress once again for the resident DJs and the punters. Previous years have seen Fisher & Price don comedy guises such as Tweedledum and Tweedledee and for the more than game regulars, it’s the perfect excuse to really let themselves go. (Catherine Bromfey)
