SPARENCUS

.\'ot only is the film brilliantly made. written. directed and acted. it also remains one of the most inspiring stories ever told. It is an inspiration IAN RANKIN. AUTHOR

Ricky Demarco and a host of gags. all filmed on a budget that wouldn't get you four fish suppers.

FESTEN

I love the way the tale is told: the characters are brilliant and the

narrative quirky. There were elements of Fesmz and the revelation-in-the-midst-of-a-family-do thing that reminded me of my aunt's wedding.

DAVID GREIG. PLAYWREGHT

My favourite film. or at least the only film I know to bear many repeated viewings is this Laurel and Hardy movie. I challenge anyone. anywhere in the

world. to watch the shallow river gag and not laugh. A l’apuan Villager would laugh. It also contains the song ‘In

The Blue Ridge Mountains ()f Virginia.’ Which. bizarrely. Tory frontbencher Virginia Bottomley Used as her election campaign song and played it from the top of a van as she drove around her constituency.

ANNHEHALL

I can pick that straight off the bat because I treasure my favourite movies like the artistic marvels they surely are. and \k'oody's been lop fora couple of years now. It's just a great film. it shits on .lImz/tuuun. even though I love that film too; it's totally hilarious. and very touching. You can tell Woody is still half in love with Diane Keaton every time he looks at her. The film looks ama/ing. it‘s lit and shot so warmly and subtly and the writing is Woody’s best. Ile's red hot. writing about himself in a lilm properly for the first time. The gags are great. and the satire is even better.
