PROTEST

STOP THE BOMBING National March and Rally Against the War, meet George Square, noon; rally at Central Mosque, 1.30pm. Sat 15 Dec.

Peace on earth and good will to all men - or so the Christmas saying goes, but it doesn’t seem appropriate this year. The bombs are continuing to drop on Afghanistan and thousands are now dead in America’s war against terrorism. Few would agree with what happened on 11 September, but people are split over the decision to go to war.

CND Scotland is strongly opposed to war of any kind and according to Phill Jones, its campaigns worker, the bombing should stop and aid should be brought into the country immediately. He also believes that the military action that America took against Afghanistan has failed in bringing the terrorists to justice and in the process a great deal of civilians have lost their lives. Jones also feels that they have run the risk of creating more terrorists as well as increasing the danger of civil war breaking out.

With the continuing fighting and the increasing numbers of people against it, it is no surprise that CND has organised this peaceful protest against the military action. On Saturday 15 it is holding a march from George Square to a rally at the Central Mosque where there will be a variety of speakers addressing the topic of the war in Afghanistan including politicians George Galloway, Tommy Sheridan, Liz Elkind and Rev
