COMIC STRIP GLASGOW FABULOUS

Are we in danger of taking clubbing too seriously? More specifically, as Glasgow club culture moves ever closer to the mainstream (evidenced by Optimo in The Face, Slam in the Top 40, Silicone Soul on Top Of The Pops) are we going to stand back and do nothing while normal blokes begin to entertain notions of grandeur brought on by a raging blaze of sycophancy? Thankfully, Michael Collin and Daniel Jackson are here to quell the tide with their whimsical comic strip, ‘Glasgow Fabulous’. So far the colourful cast of characters includes the Jengaheads, ‘Diamond’ Jonnie Wilkes, Slam, Silicone Soul and Harri. Given a positive reception from this particular preview, the duo hope also to introduce the likes of Oscar Fullone and Claude

Young to the regular roll call. Should List readers express sufficient interest, plans are in place to widen the remit of the strip to include cultural comment on Edinburgh’s club scene and potential subsidiary strips have been suggested, including ‘Bar Wanks’ and ‘Shop Wanks’, exploring the overblown egos of those employed in menial occupations.

‘It’s a minority interest in the grand scheme of things,’ says writer Daniel Jackson, ‘but we’d be happy to take it as far as it can go, and maybe see anthologies published. It would be good to have a run at it and get to that stage.’ (Catherine Bromley)
