I Jengaheads at Air Organic. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. One half of the Jengaheads (Martyn) drops in to the ultra-funky. Dean Happel designed West End bar to furnish the darling customers with a set that goes wherever it damn well likes. Here comes summer . . .

I The Lansdowne Sessions at the Lansdowne bar. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Jonnie Five and Brendan Hessle (Juice) get the funk flowin‘ with retro electro pop and breakers' classics in this West End bar.

I Mark Robb at Moloco (West End). 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. DJ Mark Robb transforms this ex-pakora bar into a time machine for the night. revisiting the funkiest years humanity has yet experienced. Expect widespread merry- making.

I Homework at Vault. l lpm—3am. £5 (£4). Weekly. The basement club aims for the student crowd without pandering to the usual formulaic pap. They call it fucked-up pop. which means pretty much anything from techno and electro to unashamed pop classics. lan and Stevie man the box. so all insecurities over the tunes are dispelled easily.

I LiveVEvll at Club Budda. 10pm—3am. £4. 28 Mar. Monthly. Glasgow gets a much- needed shot of drum & bass in the form of this night. This surefire funky celebration sees residents Paul Reset. Adam Geco and Simon punish your pulsating body (pleasurably. mind) with their brand of frustrated funk.

I Off The Hook V Radar at the l3th Note Club. 1 lpm—3am. £7 (£5). Weekly. Soundclash! This fortnight (28 Mar). Global Goon from Rephlex Records gets in on a piece of the avant-action. twisting hearts and minds in true l3th Note style alongside perennial sideways- steppers Off The Hook. Confuse your ears. baby!

I Trash at Trash. l().3()pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. More of a spectacle than a night out. with drunken students and footballers from wall to wall. insanely cheap drinks mean a huge queue every night.

I 1210 at Babaza. 8pm—3am. Free before I lpm. £4 (£3). Weekly. lan Thomson and Vance battle it out on the decks each week. providing the crowd with huge vocal house and garage anthems.

I Nice As Nice at the Velvet Rooms.

1 lpm—3am. £4 (free with student ID). Weekly. Don't be fooled by the plush interior: the Velvet crew could teach the young whippersnappers on the scene a thing or three about alcoholic dancing.

Upstairs. rotational residents take it in turns to provide the commercial R&B and hip-hop selections. Downstairs. James Doc Jnr plays Ibiza anthems all night long.

I Rumble at the Garage. 1 1pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. How popular is this night? How many people have fallen down the Garage's lethal staircase and woken up bruised the day after? How cheap is the booze? How big is the queue outside? Why don‘t you go and find out for yourself?

I Shagtag at Privilege. l lpm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Insanely successful night based on a complex numerical flirting system.

I Penny and Found at Destiny. lOpm—3am. £2 before 1 lpm. £3 after. Weekly. in for one penny. and drinks for £1. Any new night based on a system this crazy deserves some respect.

I Chi at McChuill's. 8pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. A strangely cool night. beginning with mellow shaolin beats and building to funky house and bouncy techno.

I Critical Mass at Nice ‘n' Sleazy. 8pm—late. Free. Weekly. Noj (Midi Hi-Fi) and John mess with your head playing anything from dub. punk. indie. reggae. hip hop. dance. rawk. soul and funk. Come along and kick out the jams or go uptown top rankin'. Guest DJs most weeks.

I Kenny H at Moloco (West End). 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Funky grooves from around the globe. with a healthy smattering of soul thrown in for good measure.

I Moda at Moda. 8pm—3am. Free. Weekly. DJs Mark and Scott entertain the troops in this. one of the most attractive nightspots in town. House and R&B are the order of the day. but if that doesn't fulfil then just marvel at what must be the coolest fireplace in town.

I Mosklto at Moskito. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. The Sole don Stevie Middleton warms a funky crowd under Bath Street. Like all good DJs. he's not afraid to throw in something old. borrowed or even blue.

I Paddy Power at the Variety Bar. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. It’s a case of the music reflecting the venue. The admirably eclectic DJ Paddy tires on everything from Brian Eno to Underground Resistance. More power to his stylus.
