son of saxophone great Dewey Redman. Joshua IS a less adventurous stylist than his old man. but has shown a willingness to experiment not only with different combinations. but also with more contemporary funk and dance-derived directions. Hrs return to the festival will feature his powerlul tenor saxophone work in another new context. Joshua Redman's Elastic Band. with Sam Yahel on organ and Greg Hutchinson on drums. The band may be new. but the concept is a classic one. and it will be very interesting to hear what Redman can do with it.
